According to their Facebook page, it's looking like end of June (we'll see...) and "it's not likely that Sky Player will come to the update planned for June"
I noticed that the files that crashed Andy Jenkinson's box were 5.1 AC-3 (in MP4) - I've successfully played videos (AVC codec if it matters) in MP4 containers with AC-3 but 2-channel not 5.1.
I would say that XVid was an unusual codec choice for transcoding DV (though the benefit would probably be reasonably small files). MPEG2 is actually probably the best fit (for SD). I chose H.264 so that I could play mine on my WD TV and I'm pretty sure I tested these and they played back on...
Presumably telnet or SSH access would be one of the first things to be implemented? Do we know if the box has Busybox loaded and it's just a case of telnet being disabled, or would Busybox need to be added?
Instead of copying to a PC in step 3 I've copied to my NAS. This means I can then play the file from my WDTV. Currently the WDTV is connected to the same TV as the HDR in the lounge, so adds no value, but at least this means I have an option for viewing on a TV in another room if I want...
I wonder how this is going to work when (if?) the media server gets implemented in a future update - if all the files on the HDD are encrypted does this mean the HDR will have to decrypt a file on the fly when it's served, or will the files only be playable on another Humax box, or will they be...
I was under the impression all the codecs were in hardware. If they add software-based codecs it would be too much strain on the CPU (for video that is).
Has everyone with this problem reported it to uksupport@humax-digital.co.uk - this way we can be sure they are aware of the numbers affected and are working on the issue.
Have you tried switching the TV to another (preferably non-HDMI) input and back again?
I'm wondering if I'm getting this problem with 1.02.07 as well, but it's only happened twice (I think) and I'm not yet decided if it's the Humax or the TV because it may have done it once before the upgrade...
It's just to distinguish the beta versions from the non-beta (ie. formal release) versions. Not sure what you mean by "finished article" - I'm confident this won't be the last software update if that's what you mean (for example - the TV Portal itself is still in Beta).
