HD-FOX: UPD no longer recognised

Here's a weird one. Some days ago HD1 threw up a message "USB drive not recognised" or some such. Since then, it has not registered on the USB media list, and yet the CF continues to function.
 
It came back some time later, but last night it did it again and this time the Media button only gave the Network option. I unplugged the UPD and plugged it back in again and that seemed to restore normal functionality (complete with Drive1 on the USB list), but now I still have CF and a USB list - but no Drive1.

This is really odd.
