Ok thanks everyone its working again now thanks to the factory reset update file. Thankfully It doesn't format the drive, I guess in my head a factory reset is more hard core. The backup files remain after a factory reset too.

Thanks for your help, I'll give this Factory Reset Update File a go. Currently the box doesn't get to a point where I can change channel or display any menu so a normal Factory Reset via menu is out of the question. I assume this will still prompt if I want to format the drive at the end...

Thanks, I should have said the first thing I tried was unplugging the LAN cable and then the aerial feed, it was doing the same thing. I did introduced a dlna server a couple of weeks ago it didn't cause a problem at the time, but I see on here there are some conflicts there so I'll look out...

Ok thanks, turned off my external fan last night and watched the HD Temp rise, when it got to 48C the noise started. Turned on my external fan again and after about 5mins it stopped the noise. Interesting the HD temp graph stopped recording at 48C and didn't record again until it cooled to...

Thanks everyone, for you help. A quick update, been looking at the temperature on sysmon, HD temp steadily increases when the box is on, it got to 45C. no sign of the rear fan starting, checked with a torch wasn't moving, and I couldn't start it with a toothpick either. but no noise either at...
