I use the package (forget the name sorry) which mounts network shares via samba and makes them appear like a USB drive on the HDR. Admittedly this is from a NAS, not the actual PC. But it works brilliantly.

I have been very happy using the CF, for quite a while. I bought my HDR pretty much the first day they went on sale, and iirc, I installed the CF when the box was roughly a year old. It transforms it for me. Many thanks! I worry about what would happen if the hdd died, and whether I'd be able...
Yep - mine is the same. I set a daily "switch on" at 18.45 and a "switch off" at 19.00 to cover wanting to remote-schedule a program for "tonight" on any given day. It is extremely rare for anyone here to be watching TV at that time. But on the rare days when it happens, it goes off way too fast...
Oh no, someone beat me to the emacs operating system joke! Although I have to say it's by far and away my favourite editor for daily use at work. It was a great joy to discover it after many painful years of vi...
Having said that, I am under no illusion about the idea of trying to run it on...
Here's a question: I have an automatic HDR wake up and then go back to sleep scheduled daily for 7.00pm, to allow me to catch remotely scheduling stuff that might be on "tonight" on any given day. Generally no-one is ever watching the TV at 7.00pm here...!
BUT, tonight I had scheduled to...
Hi all, this is just a quick note to say "thanks" for this great package! I have been using the CF for quite a while, with webif, auto-unprotect, rs etc. I had not thought to dabble with mounting network shares etc, but then I noticed a tweet about this package and took the plunge. I must admit...
Installed the custom portal, and ran the quick fix (not sure whether it was necessary...).
Custom portal works, original Humax portal still works fine.
But the Picasa page just hangs on "loading" and never loads anything - anyone else tried it?
PS - thanks to all for getting this set up!
Yes i'm using the free Comodo! :-)
I'm sure you are probably right fenlander: I've just spent/wasted an entire Saturday evening running every kind of check I can think of looking for signs of malware on my PC and I've found nothing...
At the risk of sounding like a paranoid nutter, I have uninstalled Freemake...
I just thought: what is their business model? It's all very slick and professional looking, seems to be based at least partly in Russia, and is all rather secretive. It's not open source or anything like that, but...
Hooray. I have now also confirmed that the 720p mp4 file I made with Freemake (from and HD recording) will play OK on the Hummy locally, and will also stream over the network to the Hummy (either via WMP from the PC OR from a USB hdd plugged into my wifi router, via the built in media server in...
OK. Finally some HD success!
Here's my latest experience of copying and converting hummy .ts files, from my HDR with latest (1.12) custom f/w and auto-unprotect:
After extensive (but not exhaustive) testing...
Copied files using webif over wifi.
SD files read into Freemake 2.4.0 and seem to...
OK, thanks for that Fenlander.
I have just tried converting 23 minutes of random crud off BBC HD into 720p mp4 (which took 46 minutes doing two-pass on my 3 year old quad core AMD Phenom (2.2GHz) with 4GB RAM). It seemed to use all four cores (although there's some cause to suspect Freemake can...
