Humax HDR-FOX T2 and JVC TV

This is just a thought - something else to eliminate. I have seen similar symptoms on my cousin's kit. He had both a Sony STB and TV. His issue (not necessarily yours) was caused by competition across the HDMI link between the two boxes when they were both trying to do the upscaling to HD...

    Random Power-downs

@Shaggy: since you ask, this only my personal opinion, you understand (before I get jumped on by others): In the end, after talking to Humax support and following all the diagnostic tests that were available then (at least on unmodified firmware), I came to the reasoned and firm conclusion that...

    Humax have posted 1.02.27!

Thank you BH, Chris. Between the time I posted, and you replied, and while my T2 was on, but untouched, the 'problem' resolved itself. Well, at least for the BBC channels on which it had once worked. I can only presume that what happened in the interval was that the EPG refreshed. Whereas...

    Humax have posted 1.02.27!

OK, thank you. Seems like the broadcasters have got bored with it now then?

    Humax have posted 1.02.27!

OK, so I'm now on the standard 1.o2.27 firmware. For the record, I didn't lose my schedule, or get any retune, but our DSO was last summer. Apologies in advance if this is 'just me' or has been asked before, but I no longer seem to get the 'HD alternatives' prompt. Is this because a) of 1.02.27...

    Humax Faults v. Serial Number

Now that is interesting! Your box appears to be only 6 boxes away from the one I sent back. It would be even more interesting if we could decode the format. It seems to me that the -7104664- part may be some sort of batch number. I notice that Simonhk had (perhaps?) a different batch...

H/w faults within the first 6 months

It would be interesting to know what your serial number is? I bought mine around the same time - 27 June 2011 - but from Humax Direct. You can find my serial number for comparison on Black Hole's Serial Number thread. I think the 'relevant' part are the last 5 digits; in my case these were 00346.

Steve, I am really sorry to hear about your experience :(, though, sadly, not entirely surprised. I have nothing against Humax, or their products, or even that much against their Direct Sales outlet. But, as you have experienced, things can and do go wrong, and the so-called 'fabulous'...

You are of course entitled to your opinion. I see however that you are not rushing to offer to buy my box at full price, just to tell me what you think I should do. The point about the comparison is quite simple: if I had wanted a refurbished box, I could have bought one at 75% of the price...

H/w faults within the first 6 months

 1)The Humax exchange under warranty will be a reconditioned unit. 2) I am being asked to accept a refurbished box, whose provenance, condition, age and fault history is unknown to me, and who's value (as sold on Humax Direct) is only 75% of what I paid for it only 4 months ago 3)...

Certainly. I shall happily do so when I am packing it up for return. Progress note: no read acknowledgement to the email sent on Friday; therefore copies sent by Royal Mail today.

Yes, if it was not clear, the letter has gone to the retailer. Humax Direct Ltd., from whom I purchased it. :( The relationship between the two is not entirely clear. You contact the support people on that retailer's website, you get Humax, who speak about their warranty, not your rights from...
