    Ways to reduce HDD noise?

The best way to test the hard drive would be to install the custom firmware and then run Diagnostics on the hard disk from the Webif interface.

    Ways to reduce HDD noise?

Good point Owen. I installed the System monitor app and before I set the fan to 0% minimum which produced a hard drive temp of 54 degrees C. After forcing a 50% minimum fan speed the hard drive temp levelled out at 37 degrees C and I can't really hear the fan at all. Thanks for the info. I'll...

VLC Player plugin and "Play" option in Webif

How do you set Firefox to open a new VLC Player session? Thanks

    Ways to reduce HDD noise?

Yes, you are correct Owen. I did install the fan package but only to test if the fan was working OK, by temporarily whacking Min fan speed up to 100%. It worked just fine :) Since then I just left it at the default of 0% because I have no noise issues from the fan.

VLC Player plugin and "Play" option in Webif

Yeah maybe I'll just use Firefox if I need to "play" from Webif. Chrome no longer supports the plugin either. Would be nice if Webif would just open a new session of VLC Player instead of trying to play within Webif. Then you would have the full ability to move backwards and forward within the...

    Ways to reduce HDD noise?

Yeah that's a good tip Trev. However I do suspect the hard drive more than the fan. I just mentioned the fan for completeness :) The fan is of the brushless motor design and generally work well or fail completely (unless clogged with dust) but it's always woth checking if you have the cover off...

    Disk failing

Last week I replaced the original 500GB Seagate Pipeline drive with a WD AV 1TB 3.5" SATA Media Hard Drive. I'm sure they have a 2TB version as well. It's as quiet as a mouse and less heat due to lower 5400rpm spin speed. ebuyer.com has the drive

Ooops yeah. Sorry...fingers going quicker than brain. Thanks for the correction. I meant 2TB :)

    Ways to reduce HDD noise?

I recently had a hard drive failure in my Fox T2 and I noticed the original drive was a Seagate "Pipeline" drive (now in the bin) and I did a temporary replacement with an old, fully working Samsung drive I salvaged from a PC. This drive was quite noisy. I ordered a new drive, a "WD AV 1TB 3.5"...
