Thanks for clarifying re the remotes; it's the same, latest software you note above. The tv is only a few weeks old too, so it might have come with that already installed, or it did an auto-update. Maybe different for the W8 Bravia?

On the plus side, I should add that now when I watch a 4:3 programme via the Humax (still stretched to 16:9), and then go to a 16:9 programme, it's displayed in the correct 16:9 aspect ratio! Not sure why it's now doing this, but I'm not complaining. I also noticed that when viewing older...

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. I'm probably being a bit of a muppet here, but when you say the 'HOME' button, do you mean the blue 'Y' on the Humax remote? (I've attached a photo of the two remotes for info.) If so, I don't have the same options as you describe within the settings...
