    Just to let people know ,after cleaning Sata connections, the problem with unable to record has come back. Sorry to say.

    Well , thanks all. I now have 2 HDR-1000S ,both unable to record and presume there is a big community of people with these devices. What a shame. If it is a common fault and a solution was published about which part needed fixing then I am many others would happily do a DIY fix and also help...

    Factory reset did not fix this. I've managed to clean the sata connections to the disk drive which seems to have fixed my disc problems. It is referenced on a you tube about oxidation of connections.

    I've got this problem now also. Has anyone tried a factory reset to see if this fixes the problem?
