Sorry, late to this party...
I went through the process of upgrading my Humax with a WD Green 2TB drive, only to start getting all sorts of issues. I discovered that, as you say, it's not the right type. Green is a Desktop/PC type HDD with built-in error checking and recovery, and this can...
I picked up a Humax HDR-FOX T2 on eBay last year for £45. Now running CF. Very happy with it. Being all of the similar age (I'm guessing) is there reason to think that a second-hand one is more likely to expire than the one you lost in the fire?
Disk diagnostics (general) shows no errors. I've installed fix-disk - I expected to see it on the Diagnostics page drop down but I didn't. I ran it by just typing the name in the box (I hope this was correct) - it took no time at all to run and reported no errors.

My HDR-FOX T2 always starts up showing channel 250 (BBC Red Button). Is this correct behaviour, and can I change it? I find it frustrating (and odd) that it doesn't remember the last channel viewed, like my FOXSAT-HDR. Both have the latest custom firmware.
I also ran into the 403 download issue. Fortunately I found this thread and downloaded the package from the link in prpr's post above, but shouldn't a comment be put on the "Firmware Downloads" page to indicate that this problem exists?
