Sadly, it does not record the second half.

So is this a software bug? As I say, a re-boot of the box, temporarily fixes the problem. Other than re-booting, the only workaround I've found is to edit the scheduled first half and extend the duration to encompass the second half...but that obviously gives me the news item as well.

I agree...but my box only automatically sets to record the other half of a split film after a fresh re-boot. I'm not making a request to record the other half. But I haven't tried recording a split film as a series.....I'll do that later today.
