HDR FOX T2 switching off randomly

Switched on again this morning but it will not fully start ! The HDD starts up but all of the front display remains unlit. No response from either the remote or the front buttons. I've switched off/on multiple times at the rear switch but to no avail. The PSU outputs are stable at 6.89, 6.89...

HDR FOX T2 switching off randomly

I have put the PSU back in the unit and here are the PSU outputs when loaded by the motherboard. There is minimal difference between the HDD being connected or not. HDD disconnected: 6.5v stable, 6.6v stable, 12.28v stable, 12.28v stable. HDD connected: 6.6v stable, 6.66v stable, 12.28v...

HDR FOX T2 switching off randomly

I've removed the PSU board and can see no obvious problems like swollen / leaking capacitors. The board appears generally to be in good condition with no indication of overheating, residue or dry joints. The outputs are marked G,G,+5.8,+5.8,G,G,+12,+12 Testing the outputs without any load...

HDR FOX T2 switching off randomly

The 'System Flush' software has not helped, the same problem persists. In view of the above latest posts, I'm not inclined to attempt to install the 'Custom Firmware' I've googled for a replacement PSU but no success. Is the PSU serviceable? Cannot find any documentation at all. (Edited to...

HDR FOX T2 switching off randomly

Reformatted the HDD (nothing lost as I always delete recorded programmes after they have been watched) but the problem persists. The unit switched itself off after less than 10 minutes and could only be restarted with an off/on reset. I then disabled standby but again it switched itself off...

HDR FOX T2 switching off randomly

Many thanks for your help, I am going to reformat the HDD first and will then try disabling the stand by. I will post the results. I only notice the problem when it has failed to record or when I next try to switch it on, so I don't know exactly when it switches off.

HDR FOX T2 switching off randomly

You must be a friend of 'The Donald' but I don't have a router, I'm tethered to my iphone :)

HDR FOX T2 switching off randomly

When it switches off the display would be completely blank, and the circular light, which is normally blue or red, would also be off. The unit would be totally unresponsive until an off/on reset by the main switch on the back. That is until tonight when all those 'a's appeared on the display as...

HDR FOX T2 switching off randomly

My HDR FOX T2 is over 7 years old and has recently started to switch itself off randomly. It never switches off while recording, only when on standby but of course this means any recording schedule is missed. It can easily be reset by switching off/on at the rear main switch. It switched itself...

    Tuning problems

"Oh, I see. Sticking plaster rather than a proper solution." What a strange crass thing to say !! I don't follow, it was you who suggested the solution and I already have the best quality aerial and HDMI leads.

    Tuning problems

Changing the V-format from 1080p to 1080i has fixed the problem !! (thanks EP &BH) Also tonight the signal strength on C33 is showing at 70/75% on both recorders which allows tuning of good quality images. The signal quality/strength of C33 on the TV tuner is now 100/100% at all times. Thanks...

    Tuning problems

Hello again, If I disconnect the HDMI leads from the recorders the problem with C33 distortion on the TV disappears and the signal strength and quality remains at 100% even with both recorders switched on. Not sure where this leaves me now?

    Tuning problems

Hello and thank you for your responses. 1) Aerial: I wondered if the aerial was faulty but every channel on the TV tuner is working 100%. Also every channel except C33 works fine on both recorders. If the problem persists, I'll get the aerial guy to have a look next Monday when he's back from...

    Tuning problems

I have two x HDR T2's linked in series from a single outdoor aerial to a Panasonic Smart TV. Each HDR T2 is connected to the TV by separate HDMI leads. I am tuned into the Pontop Pike transmitter and I have had no problems with this set up .....until last week when Channel 33 (570 MHz) suddenly...
