HDD errors - should I be worried?

Thanks for the thoughts. That was my thinking - but I don't know much about the technicalities of disk failures so wanted to check with more knowledgeable people. That would have been my next question  I would start an immediate and ongoing backup of everything if people thought it signs...

Humax can be difficult to use

That is a very good question! I haven't looked into it so I have no idea based on facts, but my suspicion would be that it does infringe them. That is purely based on my knowledge of what companies have managed to patent in other sectors and that Tivo have quite a few patents around PVRs. It...

HDD errors - should I be worried?

Hi, Over the weekend WebIF had a banner about HDD problems. Initially it was: Disk pending sector count is: 8 Disk offline sector count is: 8 Which was reflected in the SMART data. At that point Reallocated_Sector_Ct was 0. The first thing I did was fix-disk. When running I had a loop of...

    Alias files

Tackling this from a different direction - that is a good case for using a decent DLNA media server rather than putting them on a disk you plug directly into the Humax. Most DLNA servers have options for what indexing they present to you so you can do stuff like that. The downside of that is...

Humax can be difficult to use

As another ex-Topfield user (well, I use both side-by-side still) I have to agree with Ron and TonyC. I'm sure the Humax user interface is one of the best that has ever been on the market, but to me that is like saying the user interface is the best badly designed UI around. The native...

    [detectads] Automatically bookmark ad breaks

Is there a way to start processing a file from the command line for files that won't process manually in Webif?

[dlna-filter] Filter out DLNA traffic to prevent crashes.

That is what I would expect. I haven't checked out the latest package though - I am just going by my manual precursor to the package.

    Crashing and rebooting

That sounds like the Lenovo device runs Twonky 7. See the Humax & Twonky thread for details.

Adding entries to the RSVP Pending table

Thanks for the info. Just what I needed to be sure of my SQL. I will probably look at jim in the future as it certainly does look like it makes things easy once you have got pas the initial learning curve (which shouldn't take too long).

Adding entries to the RSVP Pending table

I guess I am just paranoid as my day job involves maintaining very large and complex systems that have been very badly written in the past with no documentation, so changing something that seems obvious can have disasterous consequences if you are not aware of the hidden dangers.

Adding entries to the RSVP Pending table

I have done that on a couple of cases so far and it fits my plan, but as I as I don't fully understand the contents of all the columns I just want to check if there could be any unintended consequences of what I am doing.

Adding entries to the RSVP Pending table

I have other reasons for wanting it to be set to the correct folder at the point of recording rather than shortly afterwards. Some of my recordings are sorted by sweeper and will remain that way, but there are some cases where I need it recorded directly into the correct folder rather than...

Adding entries to the RSVP Pending table

I have a bit of a techy question. I am thinking of doing a little tweek involving updating certain timers automatically. Not (yet) knowing Jim - I am inclined to do it with a simple SQL triggered by a cron job, but wanted to check if there are any fundamental problems with what I am thinking...

    Humax & Twonky

Please do. What will you do about the NAS ip address? You could do a setting for it. You could leave out the whole -s x.x.x.x and that would block all DNLA media servers from communicating from/to the Humax, but that would seem a bit extreme. I agree on the naming. Whilst it is limited to...

    Humax & Twonky

I had a chance to have a play and I have a partial solution using iptables. I have created /mod/etc/init.d/S22twonkyblock with the following contents: #!/bin/sh iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 50001 -s 192.168.1.1 -j DROP Where 192.168.1.1 is the IP address of my NAS that runs Twonky 7. This...
