Firmware update problem [ Solved ]

I'm not sure if "surge" is the correct term, but some kind of "disruption" to the mains. I was trying to diagnose why my oven kept tripping the RCD, so I was working on it with it "live". During the process, something shorted to ground resulting in some sparks before the breaker tripped. After...

Firmware update problem [ Solved ]

Good question - I should have checked before I over-wrote it! In the end I installed standard software 1.02.29, which worked OK. I then installed custom firmware 1.02.31_mod_3.13, which also worked. So something of a mystery - but it's working now, which is what matters. Thanks to Black Hole...

Firmware update problem [ Solved ]

I've just bought a "new" HD-FOX to replace my old one that died. I have tried to put the custom firmware on but am not having much luck. The download and install seems to go OK, but when I press the power button to restart it just "hangs" at the initial startup screen, with the LED segments...

Seem to have lost bbc4 hd

Have you tried a complete power cycle? Turn off in the usual way, then when the blue ring turns orange and the HDD spins down, turn off the mains for a few minutes before turning back on? I've had some occasional reception issues that could be solved in that way, so it might be worth at least...

    Hacking the on-board Encryption Chip...?

It's probably worth pointing out that, while not encrypting at all would be the ideal solution, it is also possible to decrypt afterwards on a PC (for example for watching on laptops / tablets). Stardust, I think you know about this already, but for the benefit of anyone else reading this...

HDR-Fox T2 upgrade - expert advice would be appreciated

In the first instance, I fixed up a PC case fan on the shelf the 'Fox lives on, behind it, blowing at the case on the hot spot. Now I have a hole cut in the lid above the tuners with a PC fan mounted in there, sucking air out of the box. In both cases the fan was powered by an old phone charger...

HDR-Fox T2 upgrade - expert advice would be appreciated

I've had issues on my 'Fox in the past with the tuners getting hot and then the signal quality dropping right off. The back panel by the aerial socket got almost painfully hot. Adding additional cooling to the tuners solved the problem.

Windows version of offline decryption (HFODU)

Brilliant, thanks very much EEPhil for the "special case" option. Yes, I now see that the issue is that each character of the serial number would have to be entered as whatever character is ASCII 0 in order to create a 00h encryption key. Not easy! You're right that there is no actual need for...

Windows version of offline decryption (HFODU)

Looking good, thanks! However I have one question / possible update request (sorry!) I have changed the encryption key on my box to all zeroes, because it apparently makes decryption a little quicker and I could also easily do the same on my HD-Fox so it can read the unencrypted files. I had...

Recordings ending up in the Duplicates Folder

Are you using Sweeper? This seems like something a Sweeper rule could cause

    Beta Offline decryption utility

Thanks very much. It would be great if you could do this - though it seems harsh to ask you to put effort into something you won't be able to use yourself!

    Beta Offline decryption utility

Thanks to all (especially af123, of course) for this work. I've now set my HDR and HD to both use all-zeroes for the keys and it's great being able to watch HDR recordings on the HD without having to wait for them to be decrypted. I guess though that I would like to add my name to the list of...

Struggling to prepare USB flash drive for WebIf on HD-FOX

Update: now working Bought a new 16 Gb USB flash drive and plugged it in; rebooted into maintenance mode; converted drive to ext2; installed WebIf; all sorted. So I assume that 500 MB is too small for this purpose, even just for installing the WebIf I still don't know if the original 4 Gb drive...

Struggling to prepare USB flash drive for WebIf on HD-FOX

I've got an HD-FOX that has been working well for several months but has suddenly lost its WebIf. It threw an error when attempting to re-download the WebIf and an ext2 utility on my PC claimed the USB drive had no files on it. Presuming that the drive might have got corrupted, I tried running...
