I've just bought a "new" HD-FOX to replace my old one that died. I have tried to put the custom firmware on but am not having much luck. The download and install seems to go OK, but when I press the power button to restart it just "hangs" at the initial startup screen, with the LED segments...

Have you tried a complete power cycle? Turn off in the usual way, then when the blue ring turns orange and the HDD spins down, turn off the mains for a few minutes before turning back on? I've had some occasional reception issues that could be solved in that way, so it might be worth at least...

It's probably worth pointing out that, while not encrypting at all would be the ideal solution, it is also possible to decrypt afterwards on a PC (for example for watching on laptops / tablets). Stardust, I think you know about this already, but for the benefit of anyone else reading this...

I've had issues on my 'Fox in the past with the tuners getting hot and then the signal quality dropping right off. The back panel by the aerial socket got almost painfully hot. Adding additional cooling to the tuners solved the problem.

Update: now working Bought a new 16 Gb USB flash drive and plugged it in; rebooted into maintenance mode; converted drive to ext2; installed WebIf; all sorted. So I assume that 500 MB is too small for this purpose, even just for installing the WebIf I still don't know if the original 4 Gb drive...
