Thanks - I think I'm also going to go down that route. As BH mentioned, this has the advantage that it will "just work", instead of needing me to notice that it's gone wrong (plus I can get a mechanical timeswitch for £4 whereas the Internet thing is £20). I'll set it up some time before going...
Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but it seems better than starting a new one as I have the same issue.
Like many people, my 'Fox crashes occasionally (1 -2 times per month) and needs a mains power cycle to reset it. Normally this isn't an issue because I'll notice fairly quickly, but I'm off...
On the subject of default options, can I make a suggestion / request for the future? When you create a new folder using WebIf, it should be set to "NoFlatten" by default - because why would you ever want to manually create a new folder, only for it to be auto-deleted soon after?
Thanks for the suggestion, but I've already done this. My impression - though I have no scientific data to prove it - is that putting files in sub-folders makes the Media display faster, but it is still slower than if the files were not there at all. It's as if the display routine is in some way...
I'm a bit late, but please let me add my thanks for this improvement. I've got a 2Tb HDD, nearly full, and so the Media list is slow at the best of times when recording. If it's auto-decrypting as well it becomes almost unusable. This change helps a lot.
OP did say "I am using the WEBIF version". I presume that rules out the old "unencrypt", though having not used it myself, I don't know whether it had a "webif" interface...
BH: You're absolutely correct in your description of the difference between "external / desktop" and "portable" drives, but in the interests of pedantry I should point out that 5.25" drives are virtually (if not entirely) unknown nowadays; the "big and chunky" drives are invariably 3.5".
Same for me, too.
The scheduled recordings list on the box itself (via WebIf) is fine.
The "Recent Activity" log on the rs web page seems accurate and up-to-date
I don't know if it's relevant, but the first line in rs.log is Error encountered, Error: 6 - Couldn't resolve host name
Hmm, well I ran fix-disk and it reported (and hopefully fixed) loads of problems. (And now the reallocated sector count has jumped up to 8 (from 0), which is a bit concerning - need to keep an eye on that).
I've reinstalled cron-daemon but am struggling with WebIf as hitting "Remove" in the...
I've been using RS for several years without issues, but in the last couple of days it seems to have gone horribly wrong. Symptoms include:
- Humax is reported as only being "seen" at the time of reboot, rather than at regular intervals through the day (although the "Recent Activity" table keeps...
Ah, yes, quite so. I forgot to list that as one of the alternatives. But the Android box is smaller and cheaper, so does have some advantages (as well as some disadvantages, of course).
I thought I'd share some experiences with the community, in case they are of interest to anyone else with multiple TVs...
My 'Fox is in the living room, connected by HDMI to my main TV. I also have a second, smaller, TV in the kitchen - there is an aerial connection between the two, and a UHF...
Aha, interesting, I've been experiencing this problem for some time, so thanks for working on it.
Do you mean that even the first episode in the series gets shifted to the earliest showing regardless of scheduling, or that the first is recorded as scheduled and then subsequent episodes pick up...
Along similar lines, I have my 'Fox installed in a unit with various shelves above and below, and because I was worried about temperatures* I fitted a big (100mm) PC fan vertically behind the 'Fox, powered by an old 3V Nokia phone charger. So the big fan turns slowly, is genuinely inaudible...
Yes, absolutely right on both counts. And of course this "large PC" could also include a number of hard drives as well (possibly RAID) so it can act as your main NAS as well. The NAS needs to be powered up all the time anyway, so combining this with the other functions that need to be on all the...
Windows MCE is essentially dead, I believe.
The principle with Kodi is to have entirely separate servers and clients.
You have one, or several, Kodi boxes (for example Amazon Fire TV) attached to your various TVs, as well potentially Kodi running on tablets and "normal" computers. These boxes...
Thanks all, some interesting points.
Neil: I maybe wasn't clear, but I do have an HDR-Fox T2 already, with CF - and agree, it is absolutely brilliant and clearly better than anything else around if you want to do things out of the ordinary.
Like BH and cdmackay, I have looked into a PC-based...
