Yes please - I probably am one of the geekier of us, but have not found the time to set this up yet, despite it looking very useful (too busy on my own geeky projects!) I recently set up a package for the HD Boot mode scripts and it was very easy. :)
I have knocked up a script that attempts to simplify nfs / smb setup by allowing shares to be configured on the box, using folder names in a special "settings" directory to add and configure shares. It runs in the background, pinging the host(s) and mounting / unmounting the share when...
You can indeed :)
Sorry not sure about aspect ratio on MKVs, but if ff/rw worked when they were local, then it should also work over a network share. If no-one else can answer, I can encode an MKV and give it a try sometime...

Don't know if this is an option for you, but using something like Handbreak or Avidemux (or one of many other mp4 converters out there) to convert your mpgs (and DVDS) to mp4/h264 would give you transport controls back again (and smaller files too:)). It might also be possible to use a media...
Here is the installer script to save extracting it from the package. May be worth executing the commands manually to see what goes wrong.
Thanks for spotting that typo - you wouldn't believe the amount of times I've typed "hrd" instead of "hdr" - btw thanks for fixing the ones in the wiki...
Hmm - I don't have quick answer for these problems I'm afraid... I just tried re-installing the package on my box and it all went smoothly, including the download. Here is the log in case its any help - there was stuff in about the website redirecting to a temporary site. Maybe it was just down...
Also we should be able to maintain the packaging system through the custom portal ;)
Presumably it would be possible to point to a local portal, hosted on the box itself, with "remote control friendly" version of webif...
I found dlna a right pain to get working and flakey once it was. If you're running the modified firmware I think its much better to simply share a folder on the computer, then mount it on the humax using cifs . To the humax it then just looks like a usb drive, seeking and file management work...
Cool - looks like humaxtvportal.com/ also has an experimental Picasa app - looking forward to having a play with this :)
Also means should Humax give up supporting the porrtal in the future (still bitter ex-Digifusion owner!), we should be able to set up our own alternative.
Just to clarify, OSX Lion does in fact support SMB shares (they work fine from windows) - Apple wrote their own driver after dropping Samba due to the licensing issues. As I understand it though it no longer supports version 1 of the protocol, and the version of Samba we have on the humax only...
The "BootHDR" package is now available, and I've done a quick update of the instructions at on the wiki.
To make life even easier, the installer will extract the HDR .hdf if it exists in mod/, or download it direct from the Humax website.
Also includes a start-up script "flag" checking system...
Also just happened to load a .ts directly into Quicktime and to my surprise it played fine (latest version in Lion - I'm fairly sure it didn't used to in Snow Leopard). Latest Quicktime also has trimming / editing powers, and can export the file to various other formats. Hurrah for Apple :p...
I use avidemux2 a fair bit on OsX (also available for windows + linux) - Its free, and pretty powerful (if occasionally a little crashy), and reads in the .ts files no problem. For making a DVD it allows trimming etc without having to re-encode (with the resultant loss of quality). Just set...
All sounds feasible - I've used both cifs and nfs to mount shared directories on the humax (cifs has problems on OsX Lion hence using nfs as well). These just appear as usb drives on the box, and everything plays fine, including ff/rw/seek working (unlike dlna). Browsing, copying, deleting etc...
Sorry my mistake  - that should have been a chmod +x, and its not even needed as chmod 755 does the trick. If you end up with dos line endings you can also get rid of them with "dos2unix [filename]" (not sure which package dos2unix came with but it works for me :)). I'll go and fix up the...
