Well, erm, Series ?
It served us well for decades, and nobody here used 'season' until the early 90's when American imports on Sky got popular, then everyone jumped on the bandwagon of using 'season' instead.
It's sad that it's taken a tragedy of such epic proportions for him to be shown for what he really is (although coming into it many of us probably already knew). Whether the electorate will take note come November is open to question though.
Bit of a shame that really, though I understand why some people may want it configurable through the SUI if they are not that conversant with going directly into the file system to set it up. To those who are though it's really a 'set and forget' thing to my mind, so having to have it...
I heard a story in the early days of digital TV when bandwidth was harder to come by that the broadcasters would progressively over a period of time ‘sneak’ down the bit-rate of the coders (usually overnight) until a set level of complaints regarding picture quality were received. They’d then...
That was my experience too. A London Underground ticket barrier reader refused my brand new contactless card. Having visited an ATM and entered the PIN number the barrier then subsequently worked.
I only ever bought one thing on TCR - a Philips S-VHS VCR. I got the assistant who sold it to me to price match a shop down the road. He gave me a 'pained' look having accepted and said something along the lines of 'I'm making no money on this', probably expecting some sympathy, but I didn't...
Indeed, and still is. I've wired up literally thousands of metres of this between IDC ('Krone') blocks (often multi-metre runs between blocks on larger frames) over the last 30 years. And my wiring went to air on BBC1/2, so can't have been too shabby!
Using blu-tak worked for me on the ZX81 RAM pack Had the ZX printer plugged into the port as well.
I can still remember the initial tone sequence in my head of how ZX81 programs ‘sounded’ when loading. Also remember holding a mic up to the telly and recording the program that Tomorrow’s World...
Happy days. I remember my Dad modified our TV to add a socket for an external speaker. Unfortunately he used a standard 3.5mm mono jack socket (breaking the TV’s internal speaker connection when used), and this was I was young, naive and before I knew about the difference between line level...
Don’t forget Tandy. I used to buy a lot there when I couldn’t wait a week or more for Maplin mail order, albeit at a higher proce usually.
Maplin were good as shops for quite a lot of years but then lost their way, sidelining the hobbyist sector and relying more on remote control toys, DJ gear...
I didn't actually know that it had all disappeared until a couple of months ago, and apparently the rot was almost complete nearly a decade ago, which shows how long since I'd been there (probably 25 years now).
Back in the day, I think there was a similar area (again, bigger) in Japan (where most of this stuff came from anyway), but can't recall its name.
UPDATE
Akihabara (Tokyo) I think.
Being a teenager in the 80's and keen on AV tech back then (and still am!), one of the best 'techy' indulgences was a wander around the myriad of hi-fi/video emporiums on Tottenham Court Road whenever I was up in London. Sadly the march of online commerce means that they have pretty much all now...
