Just had same problems which is an old bug if you have an external drive plugged in and the box resets it doesn't boot to the internal drive causing all subsequent recordings to fail. Just unplug external drive and restart
In the last couple off days the box has reset twice and on both occasions an OLD BUG REARS ITS UGLY HEAD. This is because I have an external drive connected to usb and when the box resets it doesn't reboot to the internal drive causing all subsequent recordings to fail (causing many family...
*A YEAR ON AND STILL* MEDIA FILES ARE NOT SORTED IN ANY ORDER which makes it painful to navigate 100s of files and the series/binge watch mode becomes totally redundant because it plays episodes in random order
The info you get is very poor but you get by clicking ok ok
The tv guide graphics (well just TEXT really) are big and clumsy telling virtually nothing about what's on (not even the year of a movie) leaving constantly reaching for more info, and because the 4000 has no info window like other pvrs...
The 4000 has built in volume control and that's what it controls (blue graphic) and in my case it controls my amp volume

Paul you do realise the 4000 remote can perform basic functions of your tv
On off
Volume
Source
That's what I use
And my 4000 is also plugged into my stereo amp and the volume control works great
Other thing to consider is switching on the hdmi setting on both 4000 and your tv so that when you...

YOU CAN COPY/MOVE RECORDINGS FROM HDD TO USB DRIVE which is great if you want to archive all your favourite programs and I have a 1 terabyte drive plugged in. It does carry on copying in the background so you can still watch TV or your recordings.
Just highlight the Programme/+/Copy and the...
Humax 4000 also has a BUILT IN MEDIA PLAYER so you can plug into usb to play video audio and photos.
4000 CREATES SHORTCUTS TO RECENT MEDIA so you can continue playing from where you left off with a single click
for some reason the media FILES ARE NOT SORTED IN ANY ORDER which makes it...
I posted this issue to humax support:
"If you plug in an external usb drive and the box reboots all recordings fail and you can't access existing recordings - It's rebooting to the external drive
I was hoping this would cease to be an issue in the November update but the box is still rebooting...
I have Samsung 1tb compact HDD but it could not be seen until I reformatted to NTFS
Other issue is is that if you leave it connected and the box reboots (which it still does) it reboots to the external hard drive and won't record any programs
quite serious bug wasn't killed in the last update...
Mine's still rebooting???
I can tell because I left my external hdd connected and when I come home there's no recordings which indicates it's rebooted

Quick update now that they applied the November fix so the box does not restart
have plugged in my external drive
came back yesterday to find all the recordings have disappeared
