Just to muddy the waters, my Toshiba TV will not play any of the recorded .ts files via the Humax's built-in DLNA server. However, the same .ts files, decrypted but otherwise unmodified, copied to my Mac and served over the net using MediaTomb will play perfectly fine on the TV. This suggests...
I have seen the Humax rebooting when something "undesirable" happens on the network. I was once experimenting with DLNA servers for my Android tablet. One of the apps (can't remember the name except it was free) I downloaded would cause the Humax to reboot spontaneously whenever the app was...
My limited experience suggests that remote reboot works fine if the machine has been powered on manually. However, if it is powered on via a timer, then the remote reboot (issued between a pair of power on and power off events) will most likely fail with the machine going back into standby.
That's interesting. Could you try something like VLC (anything other than iTunes) and see if these audio tracks (.m4a files) would play? My understanding is that .m4a files are not DRMed. The ones with DRM have a .m4p file extension.
iTunes audio downloads have not had DRM for quite a while, but their videos still do. In fact, I would be very interested in knowing any iTunes audio track that is still subject to DRM for the purpose of iPhone app testing.
A long shot, but check the connection between the Humax and your telly, and perhaps try using a different connection altogether (e.g. use a Scart cable if currently using HDMI). Try a different screen resolution (V-Format button on the remote) if using HDMI. It seems to me that one significant...
Brilliant. I finally have Freeview HD TS files, picture and sound, playing flawlessly on my netbook. I found this helpful article which describes the configuration process in detail. I can now thoroughly recommend the MPC-HC / LAV combo to anyone running XP with dedicated graphics for which VLC...
Jack616, I don't have the LAV splitter installed. I am using the MPC-HC internal filters and it cannot decode the audio from a Freeview HD recording. "Regular" AAC from a captured iplayer stream plays fine.
Not necessarily. I have a netbook that is less than 2 years old, has Nvidia Ion graphics but runs XP. VLC is a complete non-starter when it comes to 1080p material because the Atom processor is gutless. However, Media Player Classic Home Cinema edition, which does exploit the Ion chipset under...
An older laptop is probably still running Windows XP. VLC does not do hardware acceleration under XP and may explain why it struggles with 1080p content.
Happy to report that the latest rs code has fixed the build up of rs processes. I have run it for 2.5 hours this morning without a network connection and there was no sign of slow down or other adverse effects. Thanks af123.
RS is indeed very lightweight and it is not its CPU usage that is causing the problem. The problem appears to stem from the fact that if you don't have a reliable network connection to its server, the rs processes never complete and their numbers build up over time. It is the sheer number of...
Could it be a power interruption? I noticed when I was trying to measure the power consumption of the Hummy that when you first plug it in, it will be drawing 20W and exactly as you described. It needs to be turned on and off via the remote to be put into standby (and 0.5W consumption).
Until we have a proper fix, the following script will enable/disable the rs services:
#! /bin/sh
disable_cron() {
tmpfile="/tmp/crontab.tmp"
crontab -l > $tmpfile
if grep -q '^ *[^#].*rs_process' $tmpfile; then
sed -e 's/\(.*rs_process.*\)$/#\1/' $tmpfile | crontab -
fi
rm...
I have an Edimax EW-7711uan which has been working fine until I plugged it into a Mac. Since then it is no longer detected when plugged into the Humax (no, ethernet cable was not plugged in at the same time). I should say that the dongle still works fine on PCs, including one running Linux. The...
