My point was you stated previously 'a component that is going out of tolerance (NB not failed)' was the cause, no engineer would say that as that is wrong, the component has failed in such instance.
I disagree, consumer lawyers have stated that the sales of goods act provides protection long after the statutory warranty has expired and however well a machine worked initially, if it fails not long after the warranty expires most will be unhappy.
My understanding is if a purchaser can show...
I have now decided to give the drive a go, copied the old recordings etc over and swapped the drives, I'll report here how things go, initial notes below.
Specifically this is a Western Digital Caviar Green WDC WD20EADS which SMART shows has had 5 years use but is showing zero errors, SMART...
I don't believe all instances of this type of failure have the same cause, those reports where the box recovers is indicative to me of one or more capacitors failing, its known that failing capacitors have the habit of changing their characteristics such that they can for a period return to a...
I got hold of a broken HDR 1000S which won't record, its clear it has the same fault reported in this thread so I thought I would say what I found.
There was nothing wrong with the HDD and its clear that the HDD is interrogated on boot meaning the SATA interface is working, however the box is...
I`ve been handed a 2TB Western Digital Green wd20eads and wasn't intending on changing the 500Gb I have in my T2 but was wondering if this would work OK in it?
Looking through the forum it appears some have fitted the WD Greens so I'm hoping some that have can say if they had any problems or if...
When a document is declassified its status becomes a declassified document to signify it once was a classified one, the only documents that can be unclassified are those that always have been. ;)
I believe that's true, but I think it can also chase decrypt during recording, anyway the process is invisible, when ever I check my T2 recordings their already decrypted.
Yes, but if you have the custom firmware and add the channel editor within that, after adding the non-freesat version of C4HD you can move it to the freesat list, so no need to switch!
To schedule a recording, I now schedule on the SD channel then edit the schedule to change to the HD channel...
I recently tried this too and noted on sign up it took 30 mins to send me the password email, when I logged in found things often slow, perhaps too many of us are using this excellent addition!
I had the same issue with my flash drive, but I found if I plugged in the drive then booted up the patch got installed, although the box later said could not read the drive!
There is no immediate indication that the patch is there, though if you look at the files on the drive they are changed...
I suspect it varies on the specific drives and newer high capacity drives will be quieter, following your comment I decided to measure mine:
Background noise: 26dB
Humax Fox T2 with Seagate Pipeline HD 5900 (500Gb) Measured outside box but mic against box: 38dB
Humax Foxsat with WDC WD5000 AVDS...
Yes I can see that would be best, but I only have a laptop with very limited space so my only option is a sata to USB 2 interface I have, and as I have only one the other drive has to be on the network.
After some experiments I found the quickest way was source on the USB and the other by FTP (...
Thanks for the comments, in reply to several, I was expecting old stock as not realising some drives can auto switch to the required spec I deliberately ordered sata 2 and as sata 4 is the current your not going to get any recently made sata 2. I was however surprised at how old the item was...
UPDATE: The 4th partition went read only again so I decided that was it and bought a new drive
Looking through things it seems the drive must be a AV capable one (I destroyed a WD MyPassport using that on a PVR!) and must be SATA 2 or jumpable to SATA 2
I did'nt want to spend much and having a...
