I've experimented with various methods and found, for a wired network:
Running rsync/ssh on the Humax to copy files to a ubuntu server is so slow as to be useless.
Running rsync/ssh on the ubuntu server to pull the files from the Humax is faster but still very slow.
In the end the solution...
Just a thought - assuming that the fan is operating correctly (which might or might not be the case), is there a possibility that the fan grill (at the rear) or the ventilation holes underneath the box might have been obstructed at some time. I would guess that both need to be clear for the fan...
I converted many of my non-Humax recordings, both mpg and ts, (made over the years using various USB stick tuners) to Humax compatible files by using VideoReDo. I open the files in VideoReDo then save them as .m2ts files, (MPEG2 M2TS (*.m2ts) on the Save As menu, then rename the .m2ts to .ts...
You obviously know vastly more about this than I do, so please bear with me.
When I record a SD TV programme using a Hauppauge USB stick tuner (and its associated software) the resulting .ts file has a packet size of 188 bytes but the Humax SD .ts files have a packet size of 192 bytes. So that...
I agree that the best way of archiving the Humax recordings is to use a HDD.
Having said that, it is relatively simple to convert the Standard Def Humax .ts files to DVD compatible .mpg files and burn them to a DVD. So the following is about SD recordings, which are relatively straightforward...
Thanks for the replies.
Re: Samba - Perhaps the "Custom Firmware Package Notes" on Samba could include a trouble shooting comment to the effect that:
Check whether Samba is enabled on the Humax (WebIf "Services).
Check whether the Workgroup of the Windows PC has been changed from the default...
Many thanks to everyone. Of course, I should have thought of that (though I am new to the intricacies of rsync and ssh).
I have been backing to my Hummy My Video once a week to an external drive via USB and I thought it might be more convenient to move the backup to my HP Microserver (running...
I've set up two HDDs on my HP Microserver as network shares and I've noticed quite a difference in speed if I copy files using the Webif interface compared with either rsync or scp (both of those "pulling" the data to the Microserver, over ssh).
Webif file copy to network share (HP...
raydon,
Sorry to be a pain in the backside but should the Linux download version of sidecar 1.9 be named "sidecar_1.9_mipsel.opk" (which it is) or is it possible that this is the package intended for the Humax?
Thanks for all your good work!
Interesting thread.
I have a large number of BBC Proms recordings and have deliberately used the LF character in the Synopsis to help make the contents of the concerts clear - with each piece played appearing on a separate line in the Humax info display. It works very well indeed.
Of course...
raydon,
Many thanks for the update and thank you for mentioning the BST flag in the hmt file. I realised there was probably such a flag but I hadn't been able to find it, in spite of examining sample hmt files from the HDR (my eyes must have glazed over and missed it).
As I have been doing a...
Yes, that bears out what I can see when I examine the data in the HMT files. (I wrote a quick and dirty Excel macro to display the data from specified HMT files, based on the wiki page you pointed to.)
My point was that the timestamps generated by sidecar for BST recordings seem to be one hour...
Thanks for the link, HarveyB - I'll certainly check it out. At the moment I am very happy with the HDR-Fox T2 (with Custom Firmware and WebIf) and I have a second machine (recently bought second hand) as a backup but if I was buying now the Miraclebox would be high up on my list of candidates.
That Miraclebox certainly looks interesting and might have a lot of potential as it is based on open source Linux software. I do like the way the tuners are reasonably priced, swappable plugin modules so that DVB tuners modules can be replaced with satellite modules should an owner decide to...
Time stamps in .hmt file generated by Linux stand-alone version of sidecar.
This is relatively minor matter and I'm hesitant to bring it up (not knowing my arse from my elbow) but I've noticed something a bit odd with the timestamps in .hmt files generated by sidecar when the .hmt file is...
I bought a used T2 on ebay a couple of weeks ago and paid £57 plus postage. I've tested it out (as far as I can) and it is fully functional. It is also cosmetically in good condition.
So I have upgraded it to the latest official firmware, then installed the latest CF and WebIf, and put it into...
