      I've mentioned in a previous post that we prefer to listen to Boom Radio/Light which broadcasts a variety of music more to our tastes, rather than the wallpaper music on other commercial stations. Even BBC Radio 2 is now off our radar. But Boom is not available on DAB+ in our area (Cumbria)...

      The hi-fi system is 23 years old but in superb condition (separates include min-disk) so no Bluetooth. Any suggestions re dedicated media streamer?

      A family member is bemoaning the demise of Classic fm on DAB. Currently he has an old Genus DAB connected via Toslink to a Sony hifi system (FM receiver) for better sound. He is considering one of these, a converter to DAB+...

      I didn't know the history, but when I first bought a DAB+, my research brought up the information you give above. Essentially I could see DAB+ was the way to go and as EEPhil remarked, the UK went down the wrong route for too long. As you suggest,I'll DuckDuckGo it......;)

      This was always going to happen. The UK powers that be began with DAB, whereas Europe went with the superior DAB+. It was inevitable we would have to upgrade. I have DAB+ but here in Cumbria we still have a limited number of stations from which to choose.

      All good advice BH, I always advocate challenging the faulty goods suppliers, one recently got more upset with the one star/negative review I gave than issuing the refund! Contrast your eBay experience with Amazon yesterday (Sunday). In April I purchased an expensive Kindle cover to replace one...

      HDR FOX crashes if I use the portal.

      Normal for me and has been for a couple of years now. Humax stopped supporting the portal ages ago, just as the likes of Panasonic's Freetime. Buy a Firestick or similar if you want different apps but forget the Portal.

      I currently have one solution to a forum OP's question. I posted 5/6 days later asking if it was solved, the reply came saying he would get around to it sometime. Meanwhile two weeks later...... Makes you wonder if it's worth the bother. At least on this forum an answer or reply is almost...

      Agreed, I've come up with solutions on the Ubuntu forum and only been replied to/ thanked once. Very bad form but as you say, common. Sad really.

      Yes, there are other stations that offer paid for without ads, Absolute Country for one example. It's better just to swap stations or simply turn off.

      All commercial stations have annoying, repetitive ads, just as bad as the commercial TV crap! Even BBC local radio inserts programme propaganda at the 20/40 minute mark, completely ruining continuity. I guess the programme makers/controllers don't listen to the broadcast output.
