Fan minimum speed setting not working
Hi My mother has an issue with the front panel intermittently showing overheating. So I tweaked the fan setting to run at a minimum of 55%, but sysmon showed that the fan was not running most of the time. Well that was it! I used Rufus to create a FreeDOS FAT32 partition (MBR only) on a 1GB stick, then used Explorer to delete the DOS files, copied over the loader file, renamed it and it worked first time using the front panel button (& USB port) to boot. I thought I had the smoking gun in that my USB sticks were all GPT, and so I converted them to MBR, but no dice. Will investigate creating bootable DOS via Rufus tomorrow. What century are we in again?- mr-b

Curiouser and curiouser ... Toggling the switch vs pressing the power button when on red disc, has definitely changed something. I took my gnarliest 1GB stick formatted with FAT32 and after using the rear switch, it now boots saying "System Start" but the bright blue circle goes to mid blue. The...- mr-b

Non-destructive way to test USB stick compatibility?
Hmm, I've tried 3 different USB sticks 1/2/8GB, formatted with FAT or FAT32, both front and back USB ports, all with the same version of loader renamed HDR_FOX_T2_upgrade.hdf but nothing seems to happen on boot - either on screen or front panel. Will it definitely show something?- mr-b

Ok - it was just that the loader page mentioned " there is a very small potential risk of bricking the box... " [eek]. But BH's link is a useful checklist of things to photo, as it's important to keep everything the same for my mother!- mr-b

Non-destructive way to test USB stick compatibility?
Hi I'm testing out a USB stick to post to my mother who is going to try and install CFW (gulp). Luckily she has another Humax as a backup, albeit suffering intermittent resets. I want to try out various sticks to verify compatibilty, and it seems the only way to do it is to try a CFW install...- mr-b

Tx for all the spadework. I look forward to my mother being a guinea-pig (!), though if it's only in a firmware flash vehicle it may have to wait until a CV19 vaccine is out! Altenatively I guess I could send a pre-tested USB drive first and hope the compat issue doesn't vary between boxes ...- mr-b

My POV was for remote installation/administration, so a firmware update is definitely going to be in the too-hard pile, whereas a package/script can be installed/configured/removed/recovered from etc. remotely. No, it never came up in any forum or wiki searches and it wasn't in a sticky. I guess it's a vintage post! Will take a look. Good catch! (if it's right that is) I think this is why I've been having longstanding issues with the schedule not being restored automatically after various retune/reset events. If I went back to prev schedule backups they were populated as expected. No idea if this could/should be changed i.e...- mr-b

Ok tx - in the end I had to restore the schedule again. (I've never seen auto restore work for some reason after I had issues with the box kept losing channels last year - due to tunefix barfing on an invalid config value, now fixed apparently). I'll post that in a separate thread though. I...- mr-b

Hi I've just managed (after 1.5h) to remotely restore my mother's Hummy after she was confronted with the "Select Language" option, and she was sure she hadn't pressed any random buttons! I did read the tunefix thread before, but it said that if the region was incorrect that it would be ignored, which seems not to be the case here with 'Meridian'. Plus can someone point to where it refers to what the valid region values are? Does 'South' exclude the Com7/8 national muxes? Also...- mr-b
