I had a chat with support who gave me a call number and suggested I call sales. The sales people said they would give me a refund on the Grade A and I bit their hand off! I then ordered a new full price box which is now installed, just hope there are no more issues.
I have added the serial...
I have returned this box becasue it had random sound dropouts lasting 10 seconds or more on live and recordings. When wound back the was no problem with the recording so it must be a problem with the DAC or something close to it.

Hi guys,
Oh dear, looks like I have a couple of problems with my Grade A.
Firstly sound. When playing back recorded progs after an hour or so the sound vanishes for 20 - 30 seconds and then returns. It seems to follow this pattern again and again. At first I thought it was a broadcast issue...
Why am I surprised?
I think because I come from the Hi-Fi world where it is thought that volume contols are a black art. They are all audible and therefore having two in series is close to heresy. Secondly in all the source kit I've used owned and seen, the vast majority does not have a volume...
Oh yes, I understand that. But surely you don't care if the remote adjusted the tv volume and not the PVR do you?
I agree you have to punch the correct numbers in but the Humax remote needs that too though I suppose, not simple volume.
Don't get me wrong, there are many things I don't like...
You are correct and that is the disadvantage.
After that though you don't need to keep swapping between box control and TV control for the volume, it is just volume whichever mode the remote is in.
In an ideal world it would be great if the volume control function on the remote could be...
Ah yes, well yer see, The Sky box has no volume control but the Sky remote does. The sky remote only controls the TV volume regardless of if in TV control mode or Sky control mode. Therefore, if you turn the tv down with the sky remote and then swap between sky and DTTV then the volume remains...
Hi Brian,
No point in banging on too much about this as it comes to to matter of opinion really but I would make the following points.
I think it much better to always contol volume on the amp or TV because if you don't, when you switch to another source the volume will be different, wake the...
Yer say that but as far as I know there is no volume function at all in a modern Sky box and it was only a preset setting in the older software, never a continuous function. I think there are a fair few Sky boxes around.
Cheers,
Bob.
Black Hole, thanks for your help.
Yes, I am on the latest software, I checked this in the first minutes of having the box.
I was going to have another play with chasing playback last night but I ended up having to fix a problem with our aerial system. I do intend to have another play...
Thanks for the advice about chasing playback, I'll try it as you suggest tonight.
The volume control on the remote is great and I agree very useful. It is the volume function in the PVR i question the need for unless it is a one off setting. I prefer how the Sky remote and others work, ie. if...
Thanks for the help and sorry i'm being a bit thick.
OK, so I've set a recording to happen whilst I'm out and I get home half way through the prog. How to I watch it from the start now?
I tried..
Bring the box out of standbye. Goto media, find the recording, select it press play. This...
Is this the normal thing to do then, enable Time Shift recording?
And then you have to wind back to the start, is there a fast way to do that?
To be clear I'm talking about progs that are recording not just being watched.
Thanks
Bob.
Ah, just the post I was preying to get. So chasing playback is allowed but how? Mine says "unavailable" until the recording finishes. How do you get yours to do it?
As for the volume control I prefer the method used by Sky and my DVD recorder, no internal volume control just controls the TV...
Hi,
I've had my manager special for a little over a week now and I've found my way around most of it. Many things i like eg. I love the way it tells you when it starts a recording, is able to record 2 different things and watch something else, access via ftp and lots more.
Things i'm not too...
