Unfortunately I can't understand those instructions... multiplexes etc?
More to the point, I am amazed that is really needed, because much of the UK population can barely read and 99% are not going to mess with this sort of thing. So if this really was necessary to prevent crashing in areas...
What is the procedure for un-tuning the box and manually tuning in the channel(s) appropriate to where we live?
"Agree wholeheartedly and it is the way it is with all products. I think manufacturers should be compelled to open source their code and tool chains once they decide not to provide...
The aerial was checked out earlier this year, because (during the fierce winter we had) the masthead preamp got ripped off. I spoke to the installer at length about this and he said the orientation is correct and he checked it with his box.
We then feed the signal into an 8-output Antiference...
The reason I think manual tuning is not a solution is because every time we re-tune the TV (which has a non-HD Freeview receiver) or the Humax, we get a different set of channels. Literally every time, and they are mostly very different. I guess we are located where there are several...
I appreciate your advice, Montys (and others) but we can't actually do that. We are using it to watch TV and record channels. I already spend my evenings fighting with IT (took me a week to rebuild a blown up PC, restoring a RAID1 array from a defective DLT tape backup, etc, and I am going to...
I connected a laptop to it via an ethernet cable.
The Humax is set to 192.168.1.195 and the laptop was set to 192.168.1.10 with a 255.255.255.0 mask. The usual stuff.
Now, there is nothing plugged into the ethernet socket so there is no network. Yet, the box reboots all the time, on channel...
I seem to recall there was a hack to schedule something for 3am every morning, to prevent the Humax losing the custom firmware. Will that be lost also? To be honest, while the CFW was nice to have, I don't mind losing it because the box is currently useless for anything at all.
I will try it...
I have some more data... somewhat disturbing!
After the HD repair over telnet etc described above, it looked like it fixed it - until today.
For the first time in some days, we watched Channel 4 + 1 (channel #13 here in Brighton). Back to rebooting every minute!
Switching to ch #130 (BBC...
I went through the article and did two things: ran the telnet session to run the HD repair feature, and upgraded the firmware to the latest custom one. And re-scanned the channels, just in case. And ensured that the two IR remote controllers we have in the room (one Humax and one for a Sony TV)...
Should I do the system flush, or should I just load the latest firmware?
I have seen that writeup, Martin, but there are some things in there I should try e.g. checking for spurious IR sources.
Thank you for these pointers.
Is there anything in the newer firmware that addresses the rebooting issue?
I think there is a correlation between the rebooting and how long since the last time one searched for new channels, because if one does a new channel search, the rebooting tends to go...
I apologise for posting a common topic but I have done tons of googling, have disabled the internet (wifi) media server feature which is said to cause this sometimes, have run the "HD test" diagnostic function, and can't think of what else to do.
The unit (a7.33) has had the custom firmware...
I did a survey at a couple of big UK shops about 2-3 years ago. I tried different CDs and DVDs in the various machines they had on display. I don't have the data now. I recall Sony were the worst for playing "nonstandard" stuff, and some no-name chinese products were the best. That was as...
Most blueray DVD players currently in the shops in the UK will play video files on CDs or DVDs, to varying degrees. Plus sound files, mp3 etc.
It's like getting the T2 to play video files - it plays a few formats.
So yeah I agree with you - it will always be easy to find some combination...
Good point! I did install that module at the beginning.
The mpeg2 file is 1.0GB. The .ts was 1.3GB.
That kind of makes sense, as mp4 is a bit more efficient (for a given quality level) than mpeg2.
I will try opening the mpeg2 file with Vegas when it has finished rendering the DVD :)
Good point, but nothing I have will read the .ts file so I have little choice but to use Handbrake to convert it to mp4 (the only HB output format) and with the highest bit rate possible. The final DVD data size is something I can't explain. But isn't that because Freeview data is mpeg2 while...
