Yes, very low but I guess linux is a common OS to target for this kind of thing. It doesn't need to be Humax specific just looking for a STB with a linux OS (which is most of them).
As I say, I'm not losing sleep though.
That may be true but if the code that runs sniffs your network it could easily install itself onto other devices on your network which may have more worrying data on them, not to mention sniffing packets on your network for everything you do.
I'm no expert but I decided to read the thread and, as far as I can see, the threat depends on a specific data stream being fed into ffmpeg which would cause code to be executed on our boxes.
The only source we have for data is the broadcast stream so the 'hacking' code would have to be...
I had a version of VLC that let me do that some time ago but I haven't been able to get it to browse DLNA since then - not sure what changed but I THINK VLC regressed the feature.
I think we have established that DLNA is working as the OP was able to use the WebIF link to play files via VLC, only problem is XP (unlike later versions) does not let you browse DLNA resources without extra software so it is just invisible.
Browsing the samba share seems to be a remaining...
I beg to differ, I found that XP could take hours (or days sometimes) to recognise a new network resource. Win7 rarely takes more than a few minutes.
Also, XP does not have a native DLNA browser so you will not 'see' a DLNA resource unless you install additional software such as uPnP...
Sounds to me like your mac doesn't have the codecs to decode the MPEG2 stream although I would have expected those to be packaged with VLC, they certainly were on my windows PC last time I installed it. Usually the problems are the other way round with SD playing but not HD.
Memory Stick is/was a brand name for a type of flash memory originally marketed by Sony IIRC so using it as a generic name for USB flash drives is a little awkward, especially as the original memory sticks did not have a USB interface. In my world people normally call them flash drives but...
I'm pretty sure it's not a faulty update, that has been established firmly. Sure, there is a deficiency in performance but that appears to be due to a design change and, given that it's been in all versions that have been released for many months now it is clearly not something they are running...
Thanks. Turns out my login started working again anyway a few minutes after the last message so I was able to log in anyway - odd.
I suppose it is possible I had a prolonged attack of being unable to type my password but if so I suddenly became able to type it again :D
Oo, and I see the...
Ok, having realised it is looking for a captcha I tried some more browsers and eventually got something to appear using IE but I can't get one where both words are readable - or at least I must be reading one wrong as I still get failures to authenticate. Should I be entering the words separated...
Hmm, first time I tried accessing RS after this change and I can't connect. I have tried from various browsers on various machines and it doesn't let me in.
I tried the 'forgot password' link in case I am misremembering the password but that just says I haven't entered the right 'words'...
I have also given up on Dyndns after this latest alteration and am looking for an alternative.
For what it is worth dyndns have had a 30 day renewal feature for quite a while now and just updating the address via tools like that in the CF is not sufficient to keep the address alive. It used to...
Sounds like you don't have the VLC plugin installed in your browser (or it doesn't work for your OS) but all is not lost. If you click on the link address that is shown just above then it should allow you to open the link in any compatible media player. For example, I tend to watch via an...
I do this all the time without even thinking about it. All our TV is wacthed via the HDR as it is our only tuner so there will be numerous times where the HDR is recording two channels while watching (possibly a third) and at the same time someone (unusually me) is watching another recording. In...
I use MX player pro on my Nexus 7 and rarely have trouble stopping and resuming playback. MX player prompts me if I want to resume or start over.
I have noticed that on some occasions if I am playing back via the media player rather by direct file sharing that it can get hung up (e.g. when...
Presumably that can't be used to bring a box back out of standby. That's the feature I would like - to remotely wake up a sleeping device, I presume that is impossible though. My wife has a habit of putting the box in standby when she goes to bed, meanwhile I'm already upstairs watching...
I presume you haven't used ebay recently. Nowadays you get an embedded paypal panel inside your ebay checkout page.
I just did an RS donation and the banner across the top is pretty minimal in my opinion.
