All of those things are configured via the WebIF or, if you prefer, could be configured by editing files via the Telnet interface. Both require a network connection. Also, I'm not completely clear how you install packages other than a network connection.
That said, if you connect the network...
I'm sure you can. However I suspect you may find Slingbox less hassle than getting the two Humax box solution working. Nevertheless, I'd be very interested in hearing how you get on as one never knows when that sort of capability might come in handy.
Personally, if I were to attempt such a...
As EEPhil says, for this sort of thing, ffmpeg is the tool to use.
If you really need MP3 (ie your player can't cope with mp2):
ffmpeg -i infile.ts -f mp3 -acodec mp3 -aq 2 -vn outfile.mp3
And if you'd prefer AAC:
ffmpeg -i infile.tx -c:a aac -q:a 2 outfile.m4a
Putting it all together (in bash...
If you copy them onto the USB and try to play them from your first machine, do they then play OK? If so, it suggests that, like the HD recordings, they're getting encrypted. The broadcasters have the option of doing that, but they don't normally do so for SD recordings. But ISTR on the HDR-FOX...
Ah - ok. Good. All in order now then. Thanks.
BTW what may have cleared the xconv issue (for me) seemed to be:
opkg --force-reinstall install jim webif
Thanks in any case.
Good point.
BTW, if I reinstall webif via the command line the same thing happens, unsurprisingly:
humax3# opkg --force-reinstall install webif
Removing package webif from root...
Not deleting modified conffile /mod/webif/html/favicon.ico.
Installing webif (1.4.1-4) to root...
Downloading...
I had the exact same problem (after upgrading webif via the webif), and following the steps above appears to have fixed it.
However, on reinstalling webif I get error messages.

I've also seen this on my mother's HDR-2000T. Fortunately it has cleared itself after a power cycle. However I'm concerned that it may be going wrong.... and mine is still under its warranty (it was bought as graded stock from Humax Direct).
It does bear some similarity to the symptoms I had on...
Makes sense. Thanks. If one falls into my hands (I bought one for my mum) I might have a play. But right now I'm running two Foxes, so as you say.... why bother?
Why do you think it never will be? Have Humax done a proper job of protecting the upgrade (cryptographic signing etc)? Just wonder what makes you say that.
Nintendo Wii has been cracked, though the 3DS hasn't. And Nintendo put a lot more effort in than Humax.
I think I'm right in thinking the e2fsck we use from the command line on the Hummy is one installed by custom firmware and no one installed by Humax? So if they did deliberately use extra features it's no surprise fsck didn't know about them.
I agree. I'm the originator of the thread and reformatted the errant disk from the Humax command line using the custom firmware tools (which, I suspect is the same as any other Linux-based formatter) and had no problems. It seems that that version of the Humax app formats it in a strange way...
I know what's wrong. You're doing nothing wrong:

Basically, what (as I read it) Filezilla does when uploading is it tries to upload the files into the appropriate directory. If the FTP server rejects it with an error 'no such...
Well, I'd tried replacing the PSU and the HDD so by a process of elimination it was the motherboard. I tried re-soldering the SATA connectors and a few other bits (but not the BGAs!) to no avail. I believe it was probably a poor connection somewhere on the motherboard. So in my case it was...
