  thanks everyone, and MymsMan is correct, I don't need the backup - it was just a question to see if I could recover all the names from the movies that way - but it appears as though it will be more complicated than it's worth - and I'd be better off manually renaming the file.

  all seemed fine (although as I said - they were working before the decryption too). for completeness - I did find an HD movie (which also worked) - and am decrypting that to see if that works

  Can view DEC flagged recordings on TV however, just to note - I do seem to be able to view all recordings (not just ones with DEC) - have tested on about 10 without DEC flag and all have worked on the TV will do a few decryptions of files anyway
