Thanks guys ... :)
Monty: Well, that's a bummer. Just how up to date does your hardware need to be (talking of freeview receivers in general) in order to receive those? The Humax is the most modern thing I own, pretty much. I thought it was pretty swish given that it can handle DVB-T2. Heck, my...
OK, looked through the usual help guides, done a forum search, not turned up anything helpful here.
Using the Portal on my Humax is not top priority, but it would be nice to grab the occasional iPlayer programme or something (given that my PC apps for such stopped working a long time ago), look...
Apologies for the thread necromancy, but I can't think of anywhere more appropriate to ask this:
If you've buffered a programme that's either very near to the end or has already finished when you come to save it from the buffer ... is there a way to set the end point (as well as the name it...
Wouldn't say no to getting 25-30mb/s transfer rate for bulk copying, vs the 5-10mb/s of present... only problem is that it presumably goes in a USB socket, so your realistic absolute max rate with that connected to any host is about 25mb/s thanks to USB2's humongous overheads (so really it's a...
If you wanted to get really geeky about it, digital TV encoders and injectors are available to buy, which would then present an additional multiplex channel that the Humax could tune (and if you buy a fancy one you could connect multiple cameras to the input and be able to switch between them by...
Sadly, yes, this is in the interest of long term storage rather than pure time shifting. The device was not bought and the recordings have not been set up for my own leisure, and I only watch back a relatively small number of the things it records (there are a *few* that I queue up for myself...
BTW, bonus tip in return ... even after shrinking etc, there seems to be a lot of spurious data / inefficient coding in the produced files (which might vanish if converted to pure MPG instead of TS, IDK). If like myself you're grabbing stuff for professional archive purposes (off-air recordings...
First up, before the down and dirty discussion, can I say a big thank you to you all for your help.
My box was bulging, overflowing full and missing a lot of recordings, and trying to offload them in a fashion that was playable on other devices was eating up all my spare time...
Well yeah, it starts the actual "PVR" bit within about 5 seconds, maybe 10 on a bad day, so all it would accelerate is that part between a picture appearing on the TV and being able to access the web-IF... by a tiny amount. Like by a max of 15 seconds per boot, but I have a feeling that the...
...which one would assume is optimised for such operations, so it's probably unlikely anything less than an SSD (insanely expensive in any kind of task-relevant capacity even now) or a server-class short-stroke 10k rpm (ditto) replacement would create a meaningful difference. I mean, the 7200...
Wow, prpr, do you work at being an arse, or does it come naturally? If you didn't want to help, all you had to do was not reply, instead of getting personal about it.
Also, I already admitted having made a mistake there, but it's one I can't fix / double check until I get home. There's no need...
1/ It's running 24/7 because that's how I have to leave it at the moment to make sure things actually record late at night, or it actually finishes shrinking / decrypting / copying / etc - it was a sort of workaround to other issues. If it can be made so that it actually goes into standby...
Yeah, already read that I'm afraid, and apart from the small parts af123 refers to, there's not really anything relevant to my situation or of use in fixing it. Cheers for the link at least.
I'll double check it, but I'll be very surprised. I have literal line-of-sight on the local transmitter...
You're not, though. If it was purely consecutive, single-tasked accesses, then I would of course agree, and even suggest looking into the slightly lower-rpm (5200 and below) eco-mode drives. But the question was about maintaining speed when doing multiple concurrent tasks, which demands a lot of...
Because if I have some things scheduled to record through to 2, 3, 4am, etc, I don't want to have to either stay up that late, or set an alarm and get up out of bed in order to switch the system into standby, that's why.
Where I say about the system automatically turning off, you can read it as...
OK, I've had a look through the stickies and back about 12 pages of posts and not seen anything that directly addresses this.
I was quite happily using the custom firmware and entirely pleased with the facilities (although I was only making relatively simple use of them) up until a couple weeks...
I'm seeing this daily with mine, and it seems to cause recording issues as well. The box is left running almost 24/7 most of the time because of some other recording hiccups (and because it's usually still grabbing something when I go to sleep, and powering off interfered with auto-shrink and...
Just an afterthought ... if the concern is having enough speed and, moreover, responsiveness to deal with multiple disc-based tasks at once, your best bet is probably a 7200rpm drive with a low average access latency figure and plenty of RAM cache (64mb or more). You can still get them that run...
