About 30 years ago I was doing some deep diving into processor microcode while repairing a minicomputer CPU that used bit slice CPU chips. I then went to write a check and found myself writing the amount in hex figures ... :frantic:

Cement must be doubtful, after all the Romans are known to have used concrete. If they didn't use cement in it, what did they use?
I thought it was Dunlop invented the pneumatic tyre - I may well be wrong though. Did he just manage to commercialise it?
My RS is now populated properly, including proper descriptions and recording times.

There is still something going wrong in the RS database. Looking at entries in the 'Visual' tab, up and including Wednesday, they contain the program information. From Thursday onward the window is empty, giving just start time as Jan 1, 1970 and duration as 00:00 for all entries.

I figured something starnge had happened when so many (obviously not) conflicts happened on my RS as well yesterday. However last nights recordings went through OK and everything had settled down this morning.
But it did have me looking for conflicts and why they would have affected programs...
Brown gunk around electrolytic capacitors is definitely not good, it means they have spilt their corrosive insides over the circuit board. This requires some good scrubbing of the PCB after removing the relevant components and possibly also being prepared to replace some other nearby components...
I never found AR to be satisfactory, despite others saying they have no problems with it.
So I record with 5 minutes padding each end, and for the case mentioned use BBC1 News HD, BBC South SD and One Show HD to get the overlaps. Then I'm not concerned if there is a couple of minutes overrun.
I have a problem with the RS Visual Schedule not updating. It is showing programs for today (Sunday) and the rest of the schedule is empty, while I know there are programs scheduled for the whole week. I had thought that it was a quirk of the daylight saving switch, but that has come and gone...
My father used to get n Australian electronics magazine which had a section every month entitled "The Serviceman Who Tells". The writer of the section was a radio & TV servicemen in Sydney, and would relate stories of unusual faults that came his way, and how he diagnosed and fixed them. He...
