  As far as I know the actual Humax source code isn't available, other than when required by open source compliance, but a small number of people have studied the machine code and have an understanding of how some of it works.

  There was a new version of the app in the early part of the year (which was a surprise given the lack of development of the actual Aura firmware) . I rarely use the app but when I do it seems adequate for my needs.

  Yes the Aura has a DLNA server. As with HDR-FOX T2, HD content is protected by the DTCIP-IP protocol but the Aura has a built in capability to transcode HD recordings so that they can be streamed without DTCP-IP (albeit at a lower resolution).

  Your installation hasn't changed in the last 10 years but the signal strength will have increased over that period. Have you considered the possibility of too much amplification?

  Try putting the box in standby, wait for the disk to stop spinning and turn the mains power off for 30s. You will only lose the recordings if you have the option to format the hard drive as part of the reset selected.

  I certainly had no problem downloading and installing VLC using the Aura. Correct. I am not aware of a way to transfer recordings onto the Aura hard drive but there may be a way that I haven't found.

As far as I know the actual Humax source code isn't available, other than when required by open source compliance, but a small number of people have studied the machine code and have an understanding of how some of it works.
