I do keep the boxes out of standby for the majority of the time as I am often in Spain for a month at a time and keep them out of standby to make them accessible during the day to be able to setup new programs and also transfer files over the internet to Spain for viewing there. I quite often...
Not sure if this the right way to do this, I posted this as a new thread and it was suggested that I re-post it here in this RS thread.
I don't know if this has been suggested before, apologies if it has and has been turned down.
I've had occasions when I've been away from home and a box has...

I've had occasions when I've been away from home and a box has locked up requiring a power cycle to restore it. I have the ability to do this remotely using X10 switches but sometimes don't notice...
Not that I can see. I haven't looked at other browsers to see if they put out similar warning messages though. I'll try them when time permits.
However, I gave up on Firefox, it's too slow now compared to Chrome and IE11 is even slower!
Thanks af123. I'd overlooked the fact that I'll be using my Dynamic DNS address to access the box when away from home so there's no point in changing the package unless you really want to. I'll live with the warning messages, they only seem to occur during the first access of any browser...
Thanks af123, I managed to import the certificate into Chrome but now I get a different message:
This is probably not the site that you are looking for!
You attempted to reach hdrfox3, but instead you actually reached a server identifying itself as humax. This may be caused by a...
Yes, but I've also considered the stress caused by having the box powered up 24 hours a day and the extra power consumed and heat produced by doing this.
Does the box do a full power cycle when put to sleep or is it just the hard disk that is spun down and the processor put in a sleep state? The...
Yes, I originally had the box setup to wake up every 30 minutes (without a corresponding sleep) to keep the box powered up most of the time even when RS had scheduled a reboot and the reboot had failed to restart the box (which seems to happen most of the time). However, in doing this, the box...
I don't, I'm happy to use HTTP on my intranet (home network)where it's behind firewalls but I want to access the box via the Internet from Spain and I'm not so happy having the userid and password in plain text for anyone to see. I'm assuming that using HTTPS will encrypt the contents of the...
When I use HTTPS to access my HDR via web-if I get the message (browser is Chrome):
The site's security certificate is not trusted!
You attempted to reach hdr-fox2, but the server presented a certificate issued by an entity that is not trusted by your computer's operating system. This may mean...
I've tried searching to see if anyone has raised this before and couldn't see anything so apologies if it has been asked before.
I want to be able to download video files over the internet when I'm not at home and I've tested this using a 3G connection and it works fine. However, I've used...
Ah, the box that had the updated smb.conf is newly acquired so the original smb.conf file hadn't been updated. I'll do the renaming on the other boxes to complete the implementation of the latest version. Thanks for your reply.
The >2GB copy worked OK on the second box but I've noticed that the install of the Samba upgrade on that box hasn't completed. The /mod/etc/smb.conf file is still my old version but there is a /mod/etc/smb.conf-opkg file there with the new settings sitting there but it hasn't replaced the old...
Thanks xyz321 and af123. The 2.2.12-4 patch which auto-downloaded onto my boxes last night appears to have fixed the proble on the one that I tried a >2GB copy on. I'll try it on the others as well and report back.
Hi GTG, you may need to update your Samba config file as the default entry...
Sorry, my last reply was a bit terse.
I changed the line "path = /Media/My Video" in the Samba config file to be "path = /mnt/hd2/My Video", stopped and restarted Samba and tried a copy of a file >2GB from the PC to the HDR with the same failing results as mentioned in my previous posts.
Thanks xyz321, I look forward to the changes.
Regarding the "The "My Video" share is not pointing directly to the location on disk "/mnt/hd2/My Video"."
"/media/My Video" is a link pointing at "/mnt/hd2/My Video" or is it vice versa, my UNIX/Linux skills are not that good. So shouldn't that...
Hi HarveyB, just to re-iterate that the part of the problem I can't replicate is a copy of a file >2GB from the HDR to the PC corrupting the copied files on the HDR. The problem copying files the other way using Windows drag and drop still exists.
Sorry to bore the pants off everyone with this problem but if anyone is interested the stuff below summarises the situation:
At least one other person, "hairy_mutley" has reported trying this and getting the same results when using Windows drag and drop.
