Thanks @/df,
@/df .... So actually, I did the new HDD a favour by checking it out with a later version of e2fsck?? Therefore.... I don't need to reformat the drive once reinstalled in the humax? (there has been quite a bit of indecisiveness of you do and you don't so please can you confirm...
nice summary - cheers
so..... and I'm wondering if this discussion or part of it could be summarised in the page about formatting the HDD and the compatibility issues that may prevail if you have problems with the HDD and take it out, plug it into a PC (running ubuntu 16.04 - other version may...
Thanks for the info Black Hole
I honestly though I was using the same tool on a Humax vs Ubuntu 16.04 all beit a slightly newer version of the e2fsck program. I also was wanting a second opinion given that e2fsck on the humax couldn't get over an LBA0 error I had on my old HDD (I was replied...
So, is there a need to reformat the disc within the Humax, using the above procedure still?
Should I also be advised not to do a e2fsck on the HDD in the future whilst connected up to Ubtuntu 16.04?
Some straight forward Yes / No answers would be great :)
Thanks
Rodp
these... are they high numbers? however following ' seek error rates, they are in hex: see here. ' quote above, I now understand that they are hex so that's all fine. :)
There is me thinking ubuntu 16.04 e2fsck would be backward compatible and not upset things! Obviosuly not?! I guess if...
- If I follow the blog, does that still mean i shouldn't then plug it into my pc and run any checks using my unbuntu 16.04 lice CD going forwards?
Sorry I think I got the CF version wrong as it would have downloaded it from the internet so it would have been the latest version.

Hi All,
Just purchased a new HDD as per recommendations on this site. I bought a 2TB skyhawk. As instructed, the first thing I did was plug it into the humax and let it format the drive. No errors occured, disc check worked fine too. I then went onto webif and reinstalled webif. I then...
I checked that before but it's empty. [shares do not delete] is also empty but I defo have a share called Asus setup in there when the humax boots up normally. Is thst the only place they would be?
Just came across this: https://hummy.tv/forum/threads/backing-up-the-webif-settings.9032/
So it looks like I just need to copy over various files from the [mod] folder found on drive 2 / sda2 (which seems to be the same drive as the My Video and My Music folders are storedin)?
I would plan to...
Oh sorry, that's what I've read already, thought it was a different set of instructions.
Can anyone provide notes on what folder(s) to copy over with the webif and package settings?
aha! rsync - that was it - thanks /df. can you install this whilst in maintenance mode? if not I'll have to give this a go in between the cyclic rebooting it's now doing. However I'm giving ftp ago having taken the drive out and plugged it into my "spare" humax.
I'll have to plug my HDD...
Thinking ahead (could be 8 years time if my replacement is as good as the previous), if I do change the formatting in partition 2, when(!) there are problems next time, would this cause more issues in fixing / retrieving the data off it? I've read the rational part but also noted that
has made...
Hi All,
Some of you may now I've been posting in a number of topics lately due to similar HDD issues. Time to bite the bullet so I'm after a new HDD. I've tracked down the same HDD on Amazon (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Seagate-ST2000VM003-Pipeline-3-5-Inch-Internal/dp/B008B0RQ1C). It's hard to...
Do I need to give up and stop the process?
It will still boot up but it was starting to go into a reboot cycle hence I started running fixdisk to see if that would sort it.
I just need to know whether I should cancel the process and or if I can transfer the file via the command line / telnet...
ok presume that's the whole process? Mine fixed about 10 bad sectors which only took a matter of minutes but then got to LBA 0 error and has since then been looping with the same message.
Is the LBA 0 likely to be the last thing it does when running?
/dev/sda:
re-writing sector 0: succeeded...
@peterworks Hi Peterworks, I've just started having similar problems with my drive and fixdisk is running at the moment and I'm getting the same "Error at LBA 0" with the Running short disk self test process counting down from 62 and stopping around 29. This has been looping for about an hour...
Thanks for the info, I'll piece this into a text / script file and share here first. To execute a script file from the webshel... do I follow these instructions?
Write the script in the file using an editor.
Make the script executable with command chmod +x <fileName>.
Run the script using...
Tried that and it doesn't think there is anything to do. Even if you try renaming it, it still ignores it.
In the pic below you can see that s2e06 remains titled as The Taxicab Wars.
s2E06, when you look at the TVDB DB list it doesn't place s2e06 with all the others, it is infact at the...
