What max current will the rear USB actually supply 5V at?
The front panel USB can do 500mA as well. There's a decent chance I can take 1A from one of the USB sockets provided I don't have anything in the other socket. I live in Cambridge, my parents in Yorkshire. The less there is at my parents that can go wrong the less likely I am to get phone calls...- Owen Smith

I need the ethernet to come up when the HDR Fox T2 comes out of standby twice a day to check for new recordings I have set using RS. The TV almost certainly won't be on at the time.- Owen Smith

The point is the ethernet switch would only be powered on when the Humax was turned on. So if watching TV either with Humax or on TV for streaming provided they turn both boxes on everything would work. And while the Humax is in standby, the ethernet switch is off. What max current will the rear USB actually supply 5V at?
I know it says 0.5A but is there a thermal cutout or anything? I want to run a USB powered ethernet switch and they need 0.7 to 1.5A depending on model. I can't mains power the switch as my dad refuses to have another thing powered all the time costing him money. He'd rather do without streaming...- Owen Smith

There is now a package that will update the custom firmware. Personally I'd rather have the safety of using a USB stick. It's not as if it has to be done often these days. The Vacuum Fluorescent Display gets very dim with use, eventually becoming almost unreadable. In very dark conditions you...- Owen Smith

I use the desktop version of webif on my iPad Pro 2022 and it is mostly fine. It does ask for my username and password annoyingly often as I'm moving between pages.- Owen Smith

I thought that sort of thing would be the case. That's not the compromise I would have chosen myself, but I understand why you went for it. I hadn't realised how much is out there on ebay. Dozens of HDR Fox T2s for less than £50, dozens of remotes for less than £10. I don't think I need to buy anything, those supplies are not going to dry up overnight. There's way more stock out there than pretty much anything else I've bought on ebay.- Owen Smith

HDR-FOX T2 HDD Replacement
OK so it's a 6Gb/s drive running at 3 Gb/s. But is that done using jumpers on the drive or is it auto downgrading? Turns out I have two WD10EZEX, I have no idea where one of them came from! What To Do with a Dead or Unwanted HDR-FOX, HD-FOX, or DTR-T1000/1010
I never go in local charity shops, indeed I rarely go in shops at all these days apart from Sainsburys and M&S Simply Food. Perhaps I should start going in charity shops when I pass them, but the chances of there being an HDR Fox T2 in there on the rare occasions I'm passing seems low.- Owen Smith

But my parents and my aunt's have half the rubber buttons semi destroyed due to my mum and my aunt pressing them with their finger nails. Stuck at START SYSTEM even with no hard disc
Turns out the "No Signal" on a soft reboot with vertical tuners has been reported before by @everthewatcher. I think for now we should assume it is common to all vertical tuner boxes until we see some counter examples (which since they're working probably no-one will report, why would they)...- Owen Smith

If anyone has working spare boxes within reasonable distance of Cambridge or Holmfirth I'd be willing to drive to pick one or two up since I'm now down to just one spare between 4 in use HDR Fox T2s (and I don't know whether it works or not...)- Owen Smith
