Don't know why that would be. I only have a single Night Mode on my amp, and I don't have any audible distortion. I don't have a great amp (Only a Pioneer 5.1), but my Kef iQ50 speakers would highlight any distortion in seconds! Since I have never detected any, I can only assume that my amp...- lstar337

Although it is marketed as a feature to protect others around you from your noisy TV viewing habbits :D , that is not its only use. Dynamic compression is a perfect way to bring the level of dialog up to a point where it can be heard clearly, without rattling the windows out of their frames. I...- lstar337

Or buy and amp with a dynamic range compression facility. On my amp it is called 'Night Mode' and this brings the dialog up, while crushing the booming explosions.- lstar337

I'm guessing that most of these replies are referring to difference in sound levels between programmes and adverts, but I think the OP is talking about sound within a programme. This is not an issue for me as I set my amp to 'Night Mode' (Audio Normalisation) for TV broadcasts, and only allow...- lstar337

Do you have MKVtoolnix? If you run your files through 'MKVinfo', it should tell you all about the streams contained within the container. If one of the audio streams contains 'Header Compression' (something that is now 'on' by default in mkv creation tools), then that could likely be your...- lstar337

I think that is header compression. I used to get this problem with my WDTV Live. I have a Batch file now that automatically strips out header compression for all files in a folder.- lstar337

Fan never spins up, regardless of temperature
The max airflow of the standard fan is only ever used for a few minutes at a time (due to the control software) to reduce the internal temperature back to acceptable levels. The same fan running continuously (even at a reduced capacity) is likely more efficient than the 'Wait till the box...- lstar337

I doubt that will matter. If the fan is constantly spinning, even at half speed, I'm sure it will keep everything cool enough.- lstar337

I used to get the green screen a lot under older firmwares, haven't seen it in a long time though. While this could be the same 'handshake' issue, the results are not the same. I didn't get a green screen like I have in the past, I haven't seen that 'unsupported video format' before either.- lstar337
