Ok.... I've gone and done it again. With all the talk about 2TB upgrading, I saw another bargain I could not resist for a 2nd hand 2TB drive. So I took a punt and got it for £35.
It arrived yesterday. Plugged it into the USB caddy and to the hummy. Unlike the 1TB drive I got recently, much lower...
I used a USB caddy to place the old drive in and connected it to the hummy (front USB).
Note : If you do this, then connect it after booting up your hummy. Reason being is that any connected external drive becomes /dev/sda and internal drive /dev/sdb.
(You want internal drive to be /dev/sda)...
Thanks prpr. The main reason why I suggest using fewer inodes with a manual format is you complete disk maintenance checks (with Fix-Disk) much much faster than when you have formatted the disk using the Humax's on screen format option. Well..... this is what I experienced anyway. Hoping it...
Yes that's the correct Wiki. You have to calculate the sectors and ensure there are 3 partitions. But if you check the partition table, and are also using a 2TB drive, I'd imagine you could get away with using the same figures as in the Wiki using gfdisk.
Once done, then in Webif you can go to...
Hi gebbly. I recommend accessing the CLI via Telnet and using the commands to format the drive from the 2TB upgrade wiki. I'm concerned that the format from the Humax on screen message uses probably 1 million times more inodes.
INFO. Had a scenario where there were several of the same programme (different Series and Episode numbers) under the one folder. This made browsing this folder on the Humax very slow as there were many files, some were duplicates. Also was a nightmare trying to find which episode to watch. I did...
Ok! All Done!
The programmes have have been copied across. On SMART Data after all that the "Reallocated_Sector_Ct" has not budged (yet!) and is still at "8".
cd /tmp
nohup time cp -pR "/media/drive2/<Whatever Source>" "/media/My Video/<Whatever Destination>" &
It was handy as this also copied...
I guess from here, what I would like to do now is just give a summary of what I did and things I've learned from doing this, so if another (newbie or not) comes along they can reference it if they want. Also looking back (he says chuckling to himself) I saw the "Power_On_Hours" from my now old...
I'm happy. Fix-Disk worked. :) Used WebIf "Diagnostics" to ensure the sectors aligned with the OS.

Hey! Sweet turn of events!
Fix-disk finished relatively quickly only after I decided to follow the disk formatting advice from this Wiki Link on 2TB Disk Installation, even though I'm using a 1Tb HDD. Because there were fewer inodes this really sped things up with Fix-Disk. Originally I...
Passing post...... Seeing a lot of this during the Fix-Disk run in PuTTy...
Too many illegal blocks in inode 25007850.
Clear inode? yes
Inode 25007685 has compression flag set on filesystem without compression support. Clear? yes
Inode 25007685 has illegal block(s). Clear? yes

Newbie question on the Fix Disk (it's still running; monitoring it through a PuTTy session)...
When the task finishes would I need to "Acknowledge" any warnings in Webif Diagnostics or will Fix Disk have cleared them up?
I agree with you Black Hole ... on the false economy of buying a 2nd HDD...
Left Fix Disk running last night. This morning found that you can ping the hummy but it's like no ports were open. Cannot telnet or use Webif. Had to cold boot it (which meant I had to get out of bed). To add, as a precautionary measure I've now set all settings under Power Management to OFF so...
Many Thanks prpr . Got it for £28. Am running Fix Disk on it right now (as the HDD warning came on for and will leave it through the night owing to Line 5 in my post (Reallocated_Sector_Ct).
The Customer Firmware is just BRILLIANT. Has breathed new life into the HDR-FOX-T2.
I've just replaced my 500Gb Seagate Pipeline ST3500312CS for a 2nd hand 1TB Seagate Pipeline ST1000VM002. I took a punt from what appears a reputable (100% feedback) vendor on eBay. Checking the HDD SMART data when all plumbed into the HDR-FOX-T2 I can see the following.
