  Glossary (click) WebIF >> Diagnostics >> Mux Info will tell you what your tuning is, and which services are on what mux. This is basic stuff.

  Your first port of call should be to look at the HDD diagnostics. If the HDD or the file system is in trouble, the OS has to retry accesses and this adds a lot of processing load with the possibility of interrupting high-priority tasks. See whether WebIF >> Diagnostics >> Disk Diagnostics...

  Is it perhaps characteristic of the 5000T to drop the HDMI link in the event of a video decode fault? That would lead to a longer interruption while the HDMI re-establishes. I can't say I've noticed anything similar on HDR-FOX. Very much localising the problem to FVP-5000T. Some kind of data...

  Is that specifically for RF handsets? It ain't gonna prove an IR handset is working if the LED is faulty!

  Not necessarily, because if different tuners are in use they are also tuned to different muxes. The HDR-FOX service menu offers an option to perform signal tests on individual tuners, the same might be true of FVP-4000T.

Not necessarily, because if different tuners are in use they are also tuned to different muxes. The HDR-FOX service menu offers an option to perform signal tests on individual tuners, the same might be true of FVP-4000T.
