Disk cooling
That's useful - ta. I have shied away from an SSD in there as if it fails, it fails absolutely so I'd have to copy stuff off more religiously than I already do- mumble_myopia

I prob did but doing a fresh install I simply try and use the latest. As a matter of interest, why are they all the same date?- mumble_myopia

I see the problem - all files have the same date and I assumed from q glance they were just mirrors. Grabbed an oldie- mumble_myopia

ah that may be the problem. Don't know vn before - I just went to the custom FW instruction page and got it from the link there. I'll try and find the vn you mentioned Many thanks for the speed of reply!- mumble_myopia

Too much of a coincidence
I upgraded a working unit to 2Gb - been meaning to do it for a while. To be tidy, I did a factory reset after swapping the HDs, let it find channels and then installed the latest custom FW. On restarting it claimed signal too weak on all channels (that I tried). Eliminating the aerial by...- mumble_myopia

Disk cooling
Bit of a lateral thought here but the disks do have a tendency to get rather warm (obviously a common issue as there is even the app to keep the fan on) so has anyone tried adding a heat wick and cooling fins? Perversely the HD is kept in a nice insulating (plastic) housing just to keep it snug...- mumble_myopia

ah ok - misinterpreted. In that case I'd imagine (assuming it can) tunefix simply looks at the standard settings and works from that; writing its end product inc region to its config file- mumble_myopia

As I said - one has to be selected during the wizard process (and poss after searching for channels). I assume it is from there - it is the identical string- mumble_myopia

that was one of the options when the Wizard ran - from memory it was that, S or SE I had to answer something- mumble_myopia

Correct - sorry. I turned on in the morning and the unit was sitting in the Wizard - no idea what had caused that. Obviously it resulted in a retune- mumble_myopia

I only edited it once you pointed me to the settings - had always assumed its default settings would work ok (hence me discovering then there was a way of removing the dross)- mumble_myopia

I'm gobsmacked that we can get any signal for ROW - we're SN8 3SS, in a dip and with the ridge of Chute Causeway twixt us and ROW. Obviously the data does not lie though. I wonder if the meteorological conditions are causing it.- mumble_myopia

which .config - the one from the units that lost or the one from the one that didn't. If you'd asked for it, I would have done so. One can only do that if oneis aware of where it is held- mumble_myopia
