I had issues with MAC address filtering on my router (which should be detailed on an earlier page). Make sure you allow the MAC address of the dongle, not the Humax box.
Have you made sure that you are running the latest firmware, as most of the network features are only available in the newest...
Are you trying to steam HD or SD files? HD ones won't work due to the copy-protection. Also have you tried XBMC? It's a free download and seems to work for most people (myself included).
Good luck, but it didn't take me more than 5mins to set up on my laptop and the netbook (once my desktop decided to play nice after fiddling with the network settings for ages!) Hopefully you should find it just as easy!
ps. Any SD stuff can be watched, but it appears that any HD programmes/movies can't due to the copy-protection employed by the TV companies. I can see the folders in the list, but there are no files in the folders when accessing through XBMC.
Oh and XBMC is free to download and use btw. Should...
I use a wireless dongle (as detailed in this thread). Make sure that you turn on 'media sharing' on the Humax box in the settings. This should auto-configure your router to allow all the signals through by using UPnP. If you have any problems with this, then check out the manual/FAQs for your...
Just set up XBMC on my missus' little netbook which uses WinXP. Go to videos -> Add Source -> Browse -> UPnP Devices -> Wait a little while for the program to search for attached devices, and voilà ! Keep clicking through all the folders until you get to the list that you want your shortcut to...
Managed to get it working. was detailing everything in this thread if anyone has similar problems. http://hummy.tv/forum/threads/new-firmware-available-with-media-server-feature.299/page-7#post-3852
Managed to get it to work - YAY! I turned everything off on my PC, all sharing options for the network etc. Rebooted and then started sharing everything again through the Control Panel. In Win7 it looks like you have to select "Media Streaming as ON" in the advanced settings before it'll work...
I have the Edimax EW-7711USN dongle, and it works perfectly. The dongle itself is quite large, but I have the (included) extension cable plugged into the back, and the dongle on my TV cabinet hidden behind the telly. This way it's not hidden/trapped by anything and the signal strength is really...
Sorry if this is a really dumb question, but I've installed the latest firmware released today and selected the media sharing option in the settings.
Can someone give me an idiot's guide on how to see the Humax on my PC? I've Windows 7, and it's not appearing as if it's connected to my network...
I've recorded stuff off channel 301 before by just selecting the program from the guide as normal, but I've not tried anything else. There may be an easier way to record red-button stuff, but I'm not sure.
Re: the Edimax EW-7711USN WLAN nLite High Gain USB Adapter
It arrived this morning. Plugged the extension into the back USB port and the supplied cable is just long enough to reach the front of the cabinet. Has a full 5 bar signal strength to my router. And I (eventually) got it working...
This is the one that I've ordered off Amazon, it's been dispatched. Once it arrives I'll post an update. But it appears to be the same as the one that rogdog has, just with the detachable antenna :)
