If I recall, "testdisk" utility from SystemRescueCD and maybe another utility "photorec" might be able to recover deleted files as long as they are not over-written. I guess you'll need to get the disk out and attached to another PC via some means if you want to recover files.
Hope that helps...
Ah maybe I was recollecting iptables syntax. I could probably do that on my router as I have custom firmware on that (Gargoyle based on OpenWRT on a TP-Link WR1043ND router, which is a marvellous upgrade from the original BT hub). Sorry for dragging this off-topic.
Would it be possible/useful to fine tune the filter from a generic reject of all packets to something that filters out just the DLNA traffic? That way people might still be able to mount the NAS. Not sure if/how this could be done, though. Something in my mind says it should be possible, though.
Ah, Ok. Thanks for looking into that.
I realise that hotplug events would change the file, but being lazy, I just issued reboot commands from the webif....
I'll install the coreutils later, then.
Right. Tried deleting contents. Then reboot. Re-creation succeeded and there was only one copy of all folders in the smb-hotplug.conf. Still with the back-quotes and no luck with sharing. So remove samba package, reboot. Check all samba files gone from /mod/etc. Re-install samba and reboot...
I can map to "media" or "media/My Video" etc but can't map to "My Video"
My hotplug file contains a couple of oddities. One is that each share appears twice, and the second is that it seems as if the path re-direction is using back-quotes:
# Do not modify this file - it will be overwritten...
OK, so the update has restored access through media then my video, but still no direct access through my video which also now appears as a share. Does the new share scheme need new share permissions or something? I'm not trying to mount anything, just browse under Explorer. What is needed to get...
I don't understand. I wasn't mounting the shares under windows or anywhere else, just trying to access them from Explorer, which has worked seamlessly since the beginning. Changing the share names in the recent update shouldn't have had any effect in that scenario, should it?.....:(

I wasn't aware that I had ever modified the Samba share file (I guess I must have done a long time ago) and I was bitten by this bug. I even removed the Samba package and re-installed and it still didn't work (guess the modified file didn't get removed and was still there on re-installation)...
My response to cat /proc/version:

I'm having the same problems of not being able to see the contents of the Samba shares. It was working earlier this week, but not now. Tried various reboots and from a PC running XP and one running Win 7 64bit. Checked the samba conf files, stopped and started the service, but no joy.

Thanks for the info xyz321. I do not have an stuttering playback from the disk - I deleted the file that was identified as using that block. I was trying to fix the disk errors reported on the smart test, and obviously can't while the smart test stops at that bad block.
I have started an...
Not had much time to play recently. Have set the device off on another smartctl -t long /dev/sda test. While reviewing the smartctl -a /dev/sda log, I have seen this at the bottom for quite a while. Is this something that is preventing fixing the LBA error?
SMART Selective self-test log data...
Thanks af123. The disk appears to be working fine. When the fix-disk was trying to repair the sector, it kept saying success and repeating the error/fix loop over and over. Perhaps I'll try a manual bad-blocks command now it's been a few days.

Hi all,
I have an HDR running 1.02.32 CF 2.19 and the SMART test log is showing some errors on 197 and 198. I have booted into maintenance mode and run the fix-disk diagnostic. When it eventually gets to the relevant sector, it asks about repairing the sector, to which I answer yes, but it...
