Ok, ok difficult trying to look at previous posts from a small handheld unit And it was a while ago!
My fault apologies although looking at the item pointed to in the post it is physically different to my unit so think Amazon may have changed the item????
Hi again, now had a chance to look back thro these various posts...... In # 20 Brian asks, in an edit, if this was the unit. I don't think I ever saw this post and did not respond to it since the next post #21 is on the next page. I did not thus confirm that the item pointed to was the same...
Hi, was just about to reply to clarify this. Had completely forgotten about the Edimax episode, old age is my excuse.... Anyway if it helps the Edimax adapter I was talking about just says "Wireless 54Mbs Adapter" on its casing, no other identification at all so whether this is an identical...
Hi, I think there maybe some confusion here..... I have never purchased a digiflex adaptor, mine was the Edimax . If you look back through the posts you will see the original Edimax purchased from Amazon which said it was Win 8 compatible did not work but I managed to buy one from eBay which...
Guys,
As a final footnote on this isssue of the latest Edimax 7711 USB adaptor not working with the Humax with software 1.03.06.
I purchased an "old" version of the Edimax off eBay, first ensuring with vendor that it did not have the Win8 logo on the box. This just has a logo on the box...
Hi Brian, no I didn't post a link, think that was Ezra. The link icon on the menu above what I am presently typing is blanked out so assume I am not allowed to link addresses etc. Perhaps links are inserted a different way?
For info I have arranged return of the Edimax to Amazon, purchased...
Thanks again for the advice Ezra. Once I relocate the Humax to its permanent position (am still "playing" with it in a temporary position until I am satisfied all is working well) I will try this.
Right! Have tried moving the Humax into its final position and tested the wifi connection using the DIGIFLEX Wireless Internet USB Adaptor WiFi Dongle (sorry but still unable to insert link).
The Digiflex works OK but the speed is, as expected, somewhat down at 36Mbs as opposed to 54Mbs...
Thank you for this info. This sounds like it could possibly be the answer. My Edimax has the Win8 logo on the box. Would be nice to return it for replacement but as it is not really faulty............ and anyway would likely get similar item back.:(
Was about to order a Devolo unit from Amazon when just for the hell of it I decided to try an old "DIGIFLEX Wireless Internet USB Adaptor WiFi Dongle" which I bought for £3.99 via Amazon back in 2010 - they are still available at this price. Low and behold it detected my network immediately and...
OK you've convinced me! But...... now find not available for home delivery and nearest Currys' store with items available is miles away. What a bummer!!!
Sounds good although looking at the power consumption it seems a bit high at 6 watts especially as I assume this is per unit so total 12 watts continuous starts to mount up at today's electricity prices! Would the 200 version be the same but just a lower max bandwidth, see they are specked at 3...
Hi, that's good to know and may make me consider the additional expense. Have already checked that it works OK via a cabled connection and it worked like a charm,
Thanks Brian, but will they work successfully on the Humax with this new version of software, that's the question!!!
Have been looking on the net for the different versions of WPA-PSK and it seems odd that the Humax wifi set does not, offer this option but instead two others with TKIP and AES...
Hi Brian,
Yes have 'thought' about it but really do, not want to go for another solution with extra expense involved and then find that doesn't work also perhaps on this new Humax software. Having said this can you recommend any particular HomePlug solution?
An update.
Managed to get a laptop rather sooner than I expected and surprisingly the Edimax "sees" all the local available wifi networks (5+) and was able to install the Edimax driver and access internet so bang goes my idea that the Edimax is faulty!
What I did discover whilst checking...
Hi Brian,
Thanks for reply. No I have yet to do this mainly because I am running Win7 64 bit and I read on one forum somewhere that the Edimax does not work on this set-up and did not wish to waste a load more time trying this. I may try on a laptop if I can borrow one from someone next week.....
