Just a quick update: I was wrong when I said that VLC on the Mac didm't seem able to display the media ID (necessary to retrieve the unencrypted video with wget). It does! At least version 3.0.6 does. Pressing "cmd i" brings up the media information page with all sorts of information, including...
I'm no expert on WiFi, but my personal preference is to have a fixed channel. The problem with auto is that it may pick an apparently empty channel, which then gets occupied at another time. I have an app on my 'phone which shows all the channels in use. I scan at a peak time (usually early...
Wireless or wired? If its wireless you might have a frequency clash with a neighbour, which would reduce the throughput. If that is the case, try setting the router to a different channel.
I did see that, but I've since been more involved in getting anything to work under Linux! Now that I have a (partial) solution, I may investigate this as an alternative to WiredCharlie's method. Depends which is easier under perl! It will also have to wait a few days, as I have other things...
Yeah, I've actually been a forum member for some time, but not made many posts. That's life! ;)
Two things that WiredCharlie's script does do that the perl script doesn't: 1) The perl script doesn't auto detect the ip address of the humax - but that didn't work for me for some reason anyway! 2)...
Well, here's a turn up for the book! I spent hours trying to get WiredCharlie's script to run under Linux, and kept running into all sorts of issues. It seems that the ftp binary in the Mac package has a different syntax - and works in a different way - to the Linux version. For example, the...
Actually, I think you are right! I'm not a mac expert - Linux is my home territory, and while I make no claim to be a programmer, I can read and understand bash scripts and "C". What has had me fooled is that the mac - unlike Linux - does not appear to have an "ftp" command built in! It...
Well, I can only write about my experiences! But transferring stuff to a USB drive seems to take forever. I've tried VFAT, NTFS and Ext-3 (Linux native) filesystems on the USB drive. Ext-3 seems to be marginally quickest, but still painfully slow. With wget, even an HD 2 hr film takes under 2...
Which is exactly what I'm trying to do! I've been downloading HiDef for years using the "long-hand" method of 1) Copy hmt files to PC 2) Edit with Okteta 3) copy back to Humax 4) Copy to external HD 5) transfer to PC to edit out breaks, etc. However this is very labour intensive, and copying to...
Managed to get it to work (eventually!) by adding the ip address of my Humax to line 7 of 3dc.sh (HOST="xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx"). This is odd, because the error message I was getting implied that it had successfully found the ip address!
It does leave an empty folder on the Humax, though: "."
It...
WiredCharlie: Just stumbled across this thread, and if I can get this to work, it will be a godsend, but so far - no joy! I can access my Humax by using gFTP on my Linux machine with no problems, so I know the FTP server is correctly configured.
Running the v5 script above from my Mac (High...
Further to my earlier post about filesystems, here's an update: I've successfully written to Ext2, Ext3 and NTFS filesystems. It recognised Ext4, but wouldn't write to it (no space available message), and failed to recognise XFS at all. Since Ext4 and XFS were included in the published config...
EEPhil & Luke: Found the telly, but the picture was so dim that it was hard to see what was going on! Certainly it responded to different channels in different ways, and didn't seem to be doing what the settings instructed it to! It looks as if I can confirm what Luke found! ;)

Black Hole & MontysEvilTwin Re: Loop-through. Fair comment, but the current consumption of a distribution amp is trivial. You are right that it would be a nuisance having to buy one, though. I already had one for other reasons, so for me, it was a no-brainer! Non-techy households would probably...
Re: Loop-through. I live in on the fringes of the Crystal Palace area, so I use a cheap distribution amp to feed my various devices (one output per device). This helps enormously in the summer when the trees are full of (often wet!) leaves! The loop-through only really serves a useful purpose if...
af123: You could be right about squashfs / flash as squashfs is set. I was under the impression (and I've no idea where I got it from!) that the root system was copied to the hard disk during formatting, and run from there. However, my only previous experience with Humax devices is my 9200, so I...
Martin: Thanks for that!
From the download: Kernel version is 2.6.37, so quite an old kernel (3.12 is in release candidate stage). From the config file, "CONFIG_NTFS_FS is not set", so they must be using either ntfs-3g or Tuxera. Fuse is set, as are Ext2, 3 and 4 as well as xfs. This is odd...
Starting with kernel 2.6, the kernel ntfs implementation underwent a complete re-write, and does now support limited ntfs writing capabilities. However, since ntfs-3G offers a much more complete solution, albeit in user-space and hence slightly slower, no-one seems to bother with the kernel...
Quote Luke: "The 2000t writes to a NTFS USB PD"
I would be wary of that - it depends how NTFS has been implemented. The 2000T runs a Linux operating system. The Linux kernel NTFS module reads fine, but is known to be buggy writing. Most Linux users use NTFS-3G via FUSE, which does provide...
