I have installed the ST2000MV003 and have formatted it using the automatic menu item that appeared.
I put my old drive in a caddy and connected it via the front USB port.
Elsewhere I have read that I should be able to select this now external usb drive and see my old recordings as they were...

Thanks - for an extra £1.50 I've gone with the enclosed version - not anticipating doing lots of drive swapping etc.

Thank you. I'll minimise usage. By the way, is there anywhere a guide to fixdisk options, as in extra command line switches that can be used? In researching my problem I came across a few places where there were "do fix-disk (as it was then) -P or other letters.

In another thread is the rapid decline of my HDD so I'm moving on to replacement thinking.
1) I've ordered a drive (ST2000MV003)
2) Is this caddy the sort of thing I'll need to house my old HDD in order to copy recordings back over onto the new one when the new one has been formatted...

Fixdisk is getting as far as 29 on the Waiting count and then repeatedly cycling with this ...

Spoke too soon ...
Watched some of a recording tonight and it went blank in the middle of playing, then no response to any buttons ... pause, stop etc. Had to turn off with the switch at the back, trying to run fixdisk again ...
And it all seems to be behaving again :)

Well it ran and ran and finished with some fixing going on and now it all seems to be working fine - all files and folders seem intact.
Is there anything else I should run as a precaution, or do you want to see the telnet details to see if there are any other issues I should do anything about...

HDR-FOX-T2, turned on and after a long time got this message "Storage must be formatted ..."
Read on the forums and realise some hard disk maintenance may be in order.
Have got as far as running fix-disk (no additional options) and get this:-
