Brilliant! Very helpful, thank you. I'll go try all that and see how far I get. I am nudging towards re-copying them via USB instead. My LAN is far too slow. Thanks again.
After a very long interlude I’m back on the case of rescuing some of my old SD recordings that I tried to copy onto my PC (via FTP over the LAN, with mixed success) to edit with VideoRedo -- after a software and hardware snafu I found none of the recordings on my PC disk would play, except one...
As I explain in this post it simply wasn't viable to continue with the old forum due to the extremely low volume of traffic compared with say 10-20 years ago, the obsolete and unsupported software, the cost and risks posed by the forthcoming GDPR privacy rules and (last but not least) the...
IIRC (it was years ago, when TV was going digital) there was very little choice available locally, and I didn't want to get a rigger to hang one on our chimney where I couldn't tinker with it.
Yes, a Vision 4-way. I'm thinking of expanding to a 6-way.
Ooh I see I'm going to be digging around in my Humax all night now! :)
One thing I have never bottomed out properly is my TV aerial setup, a 91 element whopper in the attic feeding four TVs. My Humax feeds through my Samsung TV aerial but some channels break up unless the Humax is powered on...
Just a heads-up from me as it's been a long time (seven years or so) since I posted here after buying my beloved Humax HDR Fox T2 that has rarely missed a beat: during some recent digital dusting when I deleted some old files it started playing up by sticking in a loop of *deleting* and was...
IIRC the Humax is also blind to some higher channel numbers so maybe test on e.g. channel 1. Due to the arrival of a Smart TV I've installed a Devolo dLAN 500 AV Wireless+ with 3 ports, but for now my Humax is still running happily on the cheap RT Wi-Fi dongle I got off ebay.
FWIW after updating the firmware to 1.02.29 my cheapo ebay Dongle (q.v.) seems to have stopped disconnecting itself after going on standby, and it connects to the portal next time without needing to nail the settings in manually. On a separate note, I ditched my TP-Link wireless range...
The noise that you can hear is me eating my hat...
Firstly I apologise for repeatedly referring to Realtek when Peter is correct, I mean Ralink (whom I confess I'd not heard of as a chipset maker, I thought they made peripherals). Doh!
I'd recently changed channel to #1 to avoid clashing...
Funny thing, my Realtek-chipset Ebay-special dongle which worked fine until now (and still does -- 'cos it detects my neighbour's wi-fi) resolutely refuses to connect to my network any more. I added a TP-Link range extender WA830 and everything else seems to hook up as normal. I hammered in the...
Just a heads-up as promised - the cheapo Ebay dongle (Realtek RT3070 chipset) works OK directly in the rear USB port, under a big CRT telly. I can browse Utube OK but it's a bit slow and clunky and some Utube videos don't load. Billion 7800N router probably helps, I'm not sure a feebler one...
TBH I'd forgotten I was doing that... I will try plugging a short USB extension lead into the rear at playtime. Generally it depends how well the wifi signal fares when sat underneath a big old telly. The cheapo ebay dongle will arrive in the next day or two and I'll report back.
;) Hopefully this forum will be getting a plug somewhere in EPE next month as I've just briefly mentioned the Humax in my current Net Work column. I like this forum software too, so I'll be looking at whether I can adopt it on our own servers in slow time.
Have just sourced a black RT3070...
My 2p worth, I'm a new owner and tried an old Tenda W311u dongle that was kicking around (RT2870 chipset apparently - maybe Humax boxes like Realtek chipsets), in the front USB, and it hooked onto my network straight away. I have a Billion 7800N router a good 20-odd metres away upstairs and was...
