3 HDR-FOX T2 Boxes Crashing in Unison

I have a somewhat perplexing problem with 3 HDRFOX-T2 boxes. Yesterday afternoon at 15:18 BST, three of my HDRFOX-T2 boxes crashed at exactly the same time. We noticed the one that we were watching had crashed and it appears to have rebooted and gone into standby (maybe this is normal behaviour) after the crash. We had to restart it manually via the remote control. Later I noticed that the other two were in the same state and looking at the crash logs it appears that all three crashed simultaneously.

The same thing happened this morning at 10:01 BST (it confused me at first because the crash log seems to use GMT instead of BST) with all 3 boxes crashing simultaneously then rebooting and going into standby.

I got the warning banner on each one saying that the box had crashed when I went into the Web Interface saying to look at the crash log for more info but of course the crash log doesn't contain any useful info apart from the fact that the boxes crashed and the time they crashed.

I looked at all the available logs via Diagnostics on one box but nothing stands out that might have caused the problem.

The fact that all 3 boxes crash at the same time seems to point to an external cause but the only thing that's changed recently in the house, electrically and network wise, is a new PC and a new webcam. The 3 boxes that failed are in a stack under the wall mounted TV along with 2 FOXSAT-HDR Freesat boxes (each box has a unique RC code). The two Freesat boxes were not affected by whatever caused the problem and neither was a 4th HDRFOX-T2 that is upstairs in another room although that box is flakey and crashes often (a different problem).

Anyone come across this problem? Any pointers as to how to start investigating the cause?
 
I have the crashdiag package installed on 2 of the boxes. Where should I look for the crash info? There's no extra info in the crash log.

I had thought of the DLNA problem after posting and have turned it off in settings although as far as I know the new PC isn't running a media server but it was pre-configured so I'll check to see what's running after it boots.

Run the crashdiag diagnostic to extract some information from the crash data. Further analysis is possible against the memory dump files that will have been captured in /mod/core/.
 
I've checked the new PC and as far as I can see it's not running a DLNA server. Even if it was, I haven't allowed it to connect to the home network yet as a malware scan found a Trojan Horse on it so I'm probably going to wipe the hard disk and re-install the OS from scratch before doing that.
 
I ran the crashdiag diagnostic and got the resulting output. Lots of it, I guess from previous crashes. How do you decode the timestamp, I assume the highest value (last entry) is the latest dump. They're mostly segmentation faults which to me, means a program trying to access memory that doesn't belong to it. Some bus errors and 1 illegal instruction. I'm afraid that it doesn't mean much to me.

What version are you running?
If 1.03.12, then address 0x0086f384 is part of the DLNA server code (first crash in December 2014)

So is 0x008a18a8 - last crash on Mon Jun 6 09:01:31 2016
 
I think the problem may be DLNA related (/usr/bin/humaxtv = DLNA?) and I think I've traced the problem to Icecast running on my NAS. I've turned it off (Icecast). I'll leave Content Share turned off on all the boxes and see whether things settle down and then try turning it back on again and re-starting Icecast to see if the problem re-occurs. How can I clear down the core dumps (telnet in, navigate to the /mod/core directory and remove them?)

I've never tried to use Icecast on the NAS but the crashes may happen when I access the NAS (not often) and it wakes up.

If you still have problems, you could try installing the dlna-filter package on your HDR-FOX units, and input the IP address of the NAS in the Webif settings panel.

I turned off automatic package updates after hitting a problem with one of the packages that was auto updated some time ago so I turned it off on all the boxes.

I'll try installing dlna-filter as well.

Getting it fixed would be a better idea than burying your head in the sand, but it might have gone away anyway by now.

Oh yes, that problem was fixed fairly quickly because the custom firmware is very well supported but it didn't stop me wasting time thinking the problem was with my box rather than caused by an automatic upgrade that I didn't know had taken place. I prefer to let others find the problems before applying the latest fixes, you might say that it's burying my head in the sand but I call it prudence.
I don't have the skills to track down a problem in what is, to me, a sophisticated piece of coding. Far better, I think, to let others more capable than me do the sleuthing.
It's a pity that the automatic upgrade option doesn't allow a time delay to be specified before the upgrade :).
 
No! You want the benefits, so contribute to the testing and fault reporting (or accept the chore of updating manually).

I think that's beyond the capabilities of the opkg package manager used. It doesn't have any record of a package's release date.
I guess you could cobble something externally, but it's hardly worth the effort.
