5 seconds video/audio playback dropouts

My T2 (running custom FW) is frequently suffering from 4-5 second video and audio dropouts during playback. If I skip back and replay the segment there is no problem. This happens multiple times pretty much every day.
The Humax is connected to the TV (an LG 65" C2) via HDMI.
The disk diag screen shows no obvious errors.
Any ideas for likely causes?
 
Try a different cable.
I've got one box which seems to have a bit of a dry joint or something. Holding the cable up makes it work, whereas letting gravity do its thing makes it unreliable.

Thanks for the suggestion - I've just swapped in a brand new cable. Fingers crossed....
 
The point is that even the slightest interruption will require a re-handshake on the HDMI, taking 4-5 seconds...
 
4 days with the new cable and so far no recurrence of the problem. Fingers crossed...
Thanks again for the suggestion, and for the explanation re. the HDMI handshake - it makes alot more sense now
