Nearly fell off the chair with shock (laughter really) watching "Brian and Maggie" on Channel 4.
In it there was a recreation of part of a "Weekend World" where Brian Walden (Steve Coogan) was about to interview Thatcher (Harriet Walter).
Coogan (as Walden) hands over to ITN for the news headlines and the real clip is played, Gordon Honeycombe reading the news.
Honeycombe refers to a Middle East peace talks and a Mr Dayan and a Mr F**kMe - well that's what it sounded like to me - and to Coogan as he mouths "F me" to Walter. I wonder if the real Walden did that to Thatcher or whether this was "poetic licence".
After replaying with subtitles on it turns out that it was Mr Fahmi, but Honeycombe's pronunciation made it sound like F Me.
How that was allowed at around midday on a Sunday I don't know.

Given the era, that expression would not have been common – and definitely not on telly.

I'm sure it should be - plenty of phlegm and/or a glottal stop. It was the shock of hearing a newscaster of Gordon Honeycombe's standing appearing to swear.

It does have mildly amusing scripts. The most obvious being an early episode. The medical examiner Donald "Ducky" Mallard was played by David McCallum.

While I might dispute that the quote is a Colemanball, it was an unfortunate choice of words. If the commentator had any sense (
) perhaps "He's the only Polish competitor in the competition" might have been better. I suppose it might have been said on purpose.

So many possibilities! An activity in Stalag Luft III?
Edit: Realised after posting that might require explanation. In the film The Wooden Horse, set in Stalag Luft III, the escape using a vaulting horse apparently came from seeing other POWs playing leap frog. No idea whether any were Polish, or even if there were Polish POWs in SL III.* What I was trying to equate was Pole vault with leap frog over a Polish POW. Would have been easier to delete the reference, but someone may have seen the reference and be in the process of replying. *Tried to look it up but got side-tracked with Wikipedia and the annual begging campaign!

Just seen a repeat of that episode shown about Mar 30, 2025 (5USA). I don't think all 22 series have been repeated between the two showings. Still, it illustrates your point. Things repeat even more frequently on Rewind TV!
