Annoying USB pop-screen

I'm sure everyone is aware of that annoying pop-up screen that appears on the HDR after booting if you have a USB drive plugged in or have one of the Virtual Disk packages installed. The same happens on the HD unless the drive is assigned for recording: this designation stops the pop-up screen appearing, you just get a brief 'USB device is loading' notice. Can the behaviour of the HD be mimicked somehow? Is it possible to trick the HDR into disabling the pop-up menu?

Not everyone sees this - I have drives and sticks plugged in without getting the pop up (I only see it when I plug something in after power-up). It is probably that devices that are slow to start up only make themselves noticed after the Humax has got going. Devices that are "there" as the Humax operating code gets going are ignored.

One possible solution is to program an "exit" startup command into the ir package.

The IR exit command is interesting. How do I do this? Is there a tutorial anywhere? Could sending an automated exit command interfere with another function of the Hummy?

  1. Install the ir package;
  2. Reboot to bring the package into operation;
  3. Open the WebIF Remote page;
  4. Click the "Record New Macro" button;
  5. Name the macro "boot";
  6. On the handset graphic, press the buttons you want actioned at boot time - note there are some special delay buttons added below the colour buttons - in your case you might want to try Delay5 then Exit;
  7. Save the macro.

Unfortunately this method does not work with the Virtual Disk 2 package. It seems that all of the IR commands run before the package loads: adding a delay merely results in the package taking longer to load, with the exit command executed before the pop-up screen appears :(

Is this an HDR? Why do you need virtual disks?
It is a HDR. The virtual disk allows me to access shared folders on my other HDR and my HD without plugging in a physical USB device: I don't like mounting shares under 'My Video'.

You were right about the pop-up screen not always appearing. My other HDR often has an external hard drive connected and does not show the screen if it is already connected before booting up.

Do you know if it is possible to make the virtual disk 2 package run before the IR macro? I'd rather not leave a physical device plugged in if I can help it.

I just fit a small cheap UPD in the rear USB port. It is sufficient to make the virtual USBs work, and no problems with pop-ups.
