Aura Not Playing Recordings

percussive

I've owned an Aura for more than 2 years, and all has been well.

Over the past few weeks, I am experiencing a recurring issue in which recordings on the hard drive do not play. This is NOT a recording failure (due to power outage or reception issues), as it occurs both for new recordings and for historical recordings that have previously been watched.

On selecting the recording to play, a blank screen appears, with the timer bar showing the correct duration for the recording, but the timer marker does not advance beyond the 0;00 point, even if I press fast forward.

I've unplugged the box and rebooted, but this did not help.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm not sur if a factory reset would fix this, but I'd prefer not to lose my recordings if they might eventually be playable.

Cheers

There is more than one factory reset options on the Aura; at least one of the options claims not to delete recordings. A cautious person would copy the important recording off by FTP before doing a reset.

Various people - including Humax - have suggested that a true Factory Reset (accessed from Freeview Play Preferences) does not delete recordings. It appears I didn't do this so my previous comments regarding a Factory Reset may be false.

I thought I had done a Factory Reset and lost access to the recordings. Turns out that there is a "Reset" within Device Preferences - this one does a reset and hides the recordings.
The hidden files can be accessed by devious means. They can't be deleted and clutter up the disk. The only solution then is to reformat the disk. A right pita!
