Disc format and CFW

I have had a look in the wiki but no obvious answer appeared.
Going to ebay our last T2 and wondering whether to reset and format the disc (with the Humax reset option).
I want to leave the CFW on it as I did the mod to the display, so need the [whatever it's called] option to dim it. I'll also leave the Fan package. That way any non-CFW user can just use it as Humax intended.

Should I do a full (Humax) reset, then presumably do some reinstalling/reprogramming of CFW?
Or just delete all the recordings, do a truncated retune and clean up the CFW and settings?

I think if I was in the buyer's position and did not know about the CFW I'd get frustrated more with its consequence behaviour than if that option was not active.

The display automatically dims to 50% after a couple of minutes of non-remote-control use if you don't have the [red ring] dimming option active. If you don't have the option active/installed then it is permanently stuck on the percentage set in the option.
What that means is that if you set the options to something greater than 50% then the front panel will fade overtime faster than if you had no dimmer override installed, and also it will at some point it will get difficult to see with the extra dimming, that to be useful any forced dimming should be removed.

I had no idea about that. Interesting.

Given the age of these boxes are there people out there who would buy one but were not aware of the CFW?

Don't. A non-CF user would have no idea about fix-flash-packages.

Maybe point them to this site and forum. Not sure if you'll get better price for it, but at least it'll give them a chance to read up and install the custom firmware.

Yes, even if I RMA it I will mention that it had CFW from here.
I'm still in two minds though. It's not broken (AFAIK*) and if I mess with it ...
I might leave it on for now but say I can remove it before despatch if the buyer wants.
But if that then breaks it ...

( * It was working but it's been on a shelf for a couple years.)

Your choice, but the advert must be honest and you have to decide whether it is a more or less attractive buy with CF installed.

I've put on the bay now - see post in "What to do with ..." thread.

I left the CF on it in the end - declared in the listing. I looked a the RMA process and decided that my track record of such things going smoothly is not worth the risk for perhaps a few £ more in sale value.
Thanks for the input above though - it did help.
