Disk cooling

Bit of a lateral thought here but the disks do have a tendency to get rather warm (obviously a common issue as there is even the app to keep the fan on) so has anyone tried adding a heat wick and cooling fins? Perversely the HD is kept in a nice insulating (plastic) housing just to keep it snug. Obviously rebuilding the housing would be expensive but a wick and cooling fins would simply be a capital cost rather than a running one.

The HDD temperature reading is a proxy for the system temperature. The only means we (or the Humax firmware) have to assess temperature is through the HDD's diagnostics. What you really need to worry about is the thermal management of the SoC and other parts.

A few of us have added a cooling fan to the SoC heatsink – there will be a thread about it if you search.

An easy solution to the heat the HDD adds is to fit a SSD.

That's useful - ta. I have shied away from an SSD in there as if it fails, it fails absolutely so I'd have to copy stuff off more religiously than I already do
